Nice to be German
« on: October 05, 2006, 11:42:47 PM »
German-American Day is a holiday of the United States of America, observed annually on October 6.

It was proclaimed in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan to celebrate and honor the history of German American immigration and culture to the United States of America.

The date commemorates October 6, 1683, the founding date of Germantown, Pennsylvania, the first German settlement in the original thirteen American colonies. (Germantown is now a neighborhood of Philadelphia.)

I once saw a Shipmate get special leave for himself and all of his Hispanic freinds by telling the Captain it would be good to let them go and celebrate the fifth of May.

I tried to put in for getting October off but the Captain was not interested.
