and how many times in history has this occured, namely someone dying for their cause and the people behind it, only to wonder during those last few lonely moments whether it was all really worth it?

Perhaps as often as every time .

It is good to be humble when thinking of it , some very noble people have fought for the wrong , or the looseing side.
