Those who like the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels should have a bake sale to pay for the cost, since they are so cheap.

That might work , it might work for Big Bird too.

Both are free shows that could be pushing ads or selling tickets.

So the Constitution mentions aerobatic fighter groups, but opposes literacy for the young?

I think that Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson must have pondered long and hard on that one.

We should have literacy taught only at the state level, but the opportunity of the public to see groups of whizbang pilotry on rare occasions in multimillion dollar teams of aircraft shall not be denied.

Get effing serious!

No.
There is a national interest served by widespread literacy.

No less than there is a national interest in the profeciency of its warrior pilots.

Seseme Street is so effective in its work that it could probably operate as a profit making business and pay taxes.

If the Blue Angels improve the morale of the Navy, impress enemys with our strength ,improve the public opinion of the military , then there is a cash value gained , but it couldn't exist on its own as an unsubsidised business.

Let Naval veterans and the tiny proportion of people who watch these airshows pay the cost. Grotesquely expensive entertainment is NOT a function of the federal government. Perhaps every three years or so, the AF could commission another Top Gun" flick that could pay for itself AND boost morale.

I have seen the Blue Angels exactly ONCE. Although I admit what5 tyet were doing looked difficult, it was really6 not all that impressive. The monster scene in Howard the Duck movie, THAT was impressive to watch.

Can the flyboys, Support the Bird.

Literacy of millions of kids is INFINITELY more impressive that stunts by obsolete pilots and their obsolete planes who can be replaced by drones at a twentieth of the cost. We might as well be subsidizing saber fights and proficient use of buggy whips.

Manned fighter aircraft are O B S O L E T E!

The government is in entertainment in a big way.
Who employs more musicians than the US Government?
Nobody.

The cost of the Blue Angels should be considered with the cost of the Aircraft , supporting equipment , fuel, personell and travel subtracted, none of this is avoidable by not having a show.

What you are objecting to is an expensive paint job which will be wasted as soon as we send the aircraft to war. It is a very small purportion of the total and the payback is an enormous intangible that we would miss badly.

If the Government fired Big Bird he would get work in the private secrtor with no troubble and would start paying taxes as any giant turkey should.

I think you will be right , but not yet.

Manned automobiles are also just about obsolete , but not enough cars are ready to pilot themselves to make the transition practical right now.

No & No.  The constitution mentions what the Fed is responsible for and nothing more, and all else would be State responsibility.   The former however happens to be a significant training, PR, and recruiting mechanism for the military, which is a FED responsibility.  The latter has nothing to do with "opposing", but nice try

Ben & Thomas WOULD be rolling in their graves if that got wind of the Federal monster the both Dems & Repubs have made it into

It is as silly to promote fighter pilots for our future defense as it would be to promote musketry. Fighter aircraft are already obsolete.

Literacy is not.

Big Bird 1, aerobatics teams, 0.

I don't care what you opine as "silly", or even ignorant, as it relates to supposed obsolete fighter pilots.  The Constitution still trumps your invalid opinions

Oh that is terrible!
To think that such talent is going unpaid, and untaxed .

Its just unAmerican.

Not yet they arn't.

Its coming , but it is not here.

One day there will be a lot of pilots who will pilot swarms of aircraft in pitched combat all over the planet from workstations in Idaho. These guys will commute to work every day in cars that are driven by a system built into the highway. War that depends more on robots than flesh might become a better sport and being less painfull to carry on , will be taken a lot more lightly.

It is a bigger change than we can anticipate.
Can you imagine our present carrier fleet refitted to carry drones? Each ship will be able to carry thousands of aircraft , the force projected will be immense.
But of course we will be fighting drones too, and assasins will love them .

There is a new war coming .

Sesame Workshop asks Obama campaign to take down Big Bird ad

By Lisa de Moraes

Sesame Workshop wants the Obama campaign to take down its ad mocking GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's debate promise to cook Big Bird's goose.

he ad features footage of the giant yellow bird and beloved "Sesame Street" character.

"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns," the organization said Tuesday in a statement on its Web site.

"We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down,"
the organization added. Obama's campaign is not the only outfit to jump on the  "Sesame Street" story.

Big Bird made a guest appearance on "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update to discuss Romney's debate promise to shoot down Big Bird government funding if he's elected president.

And Monday's telecast of  "The Daily Show" featured in armed Big Bird, as well as muppet-ish figures of correspondents Wyatt Cenac and John Oliver and faux newsman Jon Stewart, during a comedy bit on Romney's campaign promise to cut off federal funding for PBS. The bit also featured a clip from "Sesame Street" in which Oscar the Grouch snapped at an adorable little girl, who'd said she'd be willing to share her food with a hungry person, "Didn't you read that copy of "Atlas Shrugged" I loaned you"?

Is it any wonder we're seeing such unprecedented swing in polls, acoss the country??  Wow.  And after just 1 debate performance, an undecided voter in one of those focus groups, summed it up nicely.....  Prior to the debate, Obama was able to define Romney.  Following the debate, Romney was able to define Romney
