Hugo Chavez wins again!
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:56:11 PM »
Gasoline in Caracas, about 18¢ a gallon.

1. Venezuela- $0.18 per gallon ($0.05 per liter)

With elections looming in October 2012, President Hugo Chávez knows that raising gasoline and diesel prices would be a risky move politically.  His presidency is already threatened by his deteriorating health, providing a unique opportunity for the opposition’s candidate, the telegenic Henrique Capriles Radonski, to replace the ailing leader.  The last time the government attempted to raise gasoline prices in 1989,l riots ensued, and hundreds of people died. Venezuelans are likely to continue paying less for fuel than bottled water for years to come.

I am glad that the Oil Company establishment and the US government are not the same entity.

We are not energy independent and we never will be as long as we allow oil companies to dictate their prices and taxes through lobbyists. Those who think that we should sell the rights to drill in Alaska and that somehow this will make us citizens "energy independent" and the stupidest sort of fools.

In the US the difficulty is NOT that the government controls the oil industry: it is that the oil companies -jerks like the Kochs- control the government to such a degree.

As for Chavez, it is pretty hard to deny that he has used Venezuela's oil resources to a greater benefit of his people than the Saudis have done.

Venezuela's biggest problem is that it unnecessarily imports more than half of its food from the US, when it has some of the most fertile land in the world for planting rice, wheat, and many other crops that it imports. Chavez does not seem to have done much to educate and encourage the excessive city dwellers of Caracas and the other cities to learn farming and to live in the country. One way to do this would be to assure that people in the country had proper roads, schools, water and electricity, and of course TV and internet connections. Venezuela has a lot of possible hydroelectric dam sites as well.

No country has ever managed to turn city slum dwellers into farmers. Perhaps this is impossible. but there should be a way that Venezuela could grow most of its own food.

Chavez won the vote fair and square. He claims to be in remission from his cancer. The people of Venezuela turned out in 82% to vote in this election. That shows a greater degree of determination than any election has ever inspired among Americans.
Chavez has changed the face of Venezuela more than the US has ever done. He seems to be brighter than Fidel: he allows elections and has encouraged feedback from the people, which is not the case in Cuba.

PetroVen takes orders from the government.

The GOP takes orders from Koch.

That's worse.

PetroVen takes orders from the government.

Yea, and that's BAD

The GOP takes orders from Koch.

PROOF REQUIRED.  Your ongoing unsubstantiated say so doesn't cut it.

I could easily say the Democrats take their marching orders from Union bosses, and have far more credibility in the claim

That's worse.

If it had even a shred of validity to it, maybe.  But as evil as you try to make corporations out to be, The Federal Government is a far bigger and more dangerous potential monster.  THAT is FAR worse

Get effing serious.

I bet you'd prefer King Abdullah to Hugo Chavez.

How long ya got....the list could take hours to type!
I'd have to agree with former Ex-NAACP President who says Al Sharpton is a welfare pimp...
and I would add Jesse Jackson, President Obama, and many, many other Democrats/Liberals.
