You know this is unrealistic because ...

1)Actors in a commercial have little real influence on the dialog about the product.

2) Number one was enough. That is about it...... the audition of a man eating sphinx as an actress is somewhat less unrealistic.

That is a very convoluted comic strip.

As for actor testimonials, they probably work pretty well.

Those reverse mortgage commercials by Henry Winkler and Fred Thompson have been on for ages. They must be getting results.

Expensive educations in propaganda are devoted to selling us soap and loans.

It works in spite of that we are aware of it.

And we use the same skill to sell each other politicians and policies.

I wish I could mock it this well.

Oh yes , convoluted is the typical style of this cartoonist.

I make a conscious effort to not allow myself to be influenced by dumb commercials.
Not all commercials are dumb.

If a commercial provides useful information, it is not dumb.
Examples: commercials that advertise an actual innovative product that was previously unavailable.
Commercials that advertise an actual low price.
Commercials that provide an address that is not widely known.

Most commercials lie about the quality and advantages of their products and their affordability.

A local mattress company is advertising that after eight years, your old mattress is so filled with dead skin and sweat that it can no longer allow you to sleep in comfort and must be replaced.  This is clearly a bunch of crap.

For deliberate deception masquerading as actual fact, you hevr to admire the Right Guard commercial that told you to use Right Guard under your right arm and Brand X under the left arm. Then it said "If you are like most people, your right side will be dryer". This was actually true, because most people are right handed and the arm that moves the most, sweats the most. It was telling people to make a bogus experiment.
