This is bail-out fiasco so much like the panic bullshit about Iraq that it is spooky. I guess Repubs are too stupid to sell anything without fear. Fear is all they have left now that they have given greed a bad name.

Fear is better for selling stuff than greed. Although lying is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, it is not as immediately as easy to recognize. People also question things sold with a greed message. Try selling dollar bills for a dime sometime. Greed is much more obvious and easier to prove than lying.

Observe please, that McCain who allegedly HATES PORK, voted for this and has uttered not a syllable about this. Not a one.

Observe also that Obama, who is the way, the truth and the light voted for it also.

It's a bad bill.

I got wind that one of the pork additives was for a Dem Congress critter in the LA/Hollywood area, which provided tax breaks for HOLLYWOOD MOVIES, as an incentive to keep more of their pictures here in the U.S.  So......Democrats, so-called party of the little man, party that wants to tax "the rich", here providing tax breaks for ......THE RICH in hollywood, in order to buy a vote       >:(

It may or may not turn out to be a bad bill. It must be compared to doing nothing, and the desirability of this bill will be determined by how well it prevents a disastrous collapse of the economy.

McCain claims to be an archenemy of pork, so it is more hypocritical for him to vote for this pork-laden bill,
Obama claims to be for the little guy, so special treatment for Hollywood types seem to be hypocritical for him. Bills regarding movie production sometimes favor only one or two rich individuals, but also can involve breaks that will benefit everyone involved in the production, so this would need to be studied carefully before calling it hypocritical.

It is unlikely that any bills passed by Congress will be without some hypocrisy, because Congress insists on sticking many, many different laws into every bill they vote on.

Hypocrisy is a built-in feature of congressional legislation, and it seems therefore foolish to bitch about it every time it pops up. Congress could pass a law that every bill will deal with one issue and one issue only, but this is quite unlikely to happen.

The majority party can make this a House or Senate rule, and then it won't even require consent by the other party.

=====================================================
They could, but they won't. They need the omnibus type bills to pass the sort of things they can trade to other members for a compromise.

Nevada needs laws that favor mining, Nebraska needs laws that favors winter wheat, Rhode Island needs laws that favor fishing and ferries. No one in Nevada cares about wheat or ferries. With omnibus bills, they can agree on favors for all.

This was the problem that Jimmy Carter was faced with. Congress passes costly laws that favor only a few, and when it does not, it drags to a halt. Carter wanted to simplify government and make it more open and honest, and Congress resisted all his efforts to do this, even when he was scoring 70% in the popularity polls. Eventually, they ruined him. There are clearly limits to what any president can do. It's always far less than the expect they can do before they are elected.

Our government is deliberately designed to resist change. Parliamentary democracy makes it much easier to change.

I'm trying to remember if anyone in this race declared they were the same paygrade as God.

If i would hazard a guess more than 50% of the post in here are trying to determine Obama's paygrade.

Apparently his personnel records are missing.
