Here is what Rove says about it. I think this is right , John McCain should have given the people of South Carolina more credit and told the whole truth to them. only a very few would have thought adopting a girl from Bangladesh to be negative in the least.
This might not have been enough McCain displayed a typical Yankee attitude twards the Confederate battle flag, this probly cost him many thousand votes and gained him nothing.
There were other problems , but I kinda wish that John McCain had made this whisper campaign into a positive in just the way that Carl explains here, I think it possible and I think it possible that John McCain would have been a better president than GWB.
We may never know, McCain seems a little old now to run again, but I would definately like another chance to vote for him. He has a certain level of integrety that I like .
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34075.htmlRove said that he had “nothing to do with it.”
The former Republican political operative then said the nasty rumor –which incorrectly identified McCain’s adopted daughter from Bangladesh – actually provided McCain with an “opportunity.”
“I thought John McCain would seize it for what it was, which was an enormous opportunity to give an insight into who he and his wife are because Cindy McCain adopted a child from an orphanage in Bangladesh,” Rove said. “The story of this is an incredible tale of love and compassion. But rather than doing that, John McCain said, ‘I’m a victim,’ and was angry and complained about it and pointed the finger at Bush when he had no evidence whatsoever.”
