Title: Prediction: 5 of NY's finest shall be pink slipped
Post by: yellow_crane on November 27, 2006, 01:49:00 PM

Appears that those 5 cops who fired 5l rounds into a car, at a primarily minority night club, which may or may not have been trying to run the officers down, were not covered legally

The specific law in New York that covers such a situation specifically states that if a car is used as a weapon against police, the police cannot shoot back.  There was no gun recovered, though the first thing out of the 5 badged zealots' mouths was that there was a gun.

And of course 5l shots is adolescent cowboy mentality, at best.

The source was a pundit on MSNBC, so absolute confirmation is not possible yet, though had it been Fox you could arleady assume it was bullshit.

From Fox I learned that there were seven officers present , two did not fire.

I am wondering what whepon they were useing , if five guys fired ten shots each this would empty the five magazines on some guns , was there some reloading ?

Were most of the shots aimed to disable the vehicle?

There is going to be a lot more to this story .

Two of the five officers who shot were black, and another one was Latino. Incidentally, the "law" to which you refer is a departmental guideline, which is designed to shield innocent bystanders from harm by a runaway vehicle. There is a question whether the sense of that regulation was offended in this instance. More to the point, it seems to be a fairly simple case of when deadly force is justified. Queued for conflict, the cops were on a stakeout, looking for weapons sales and teenage prostitution. Innocent banter by inebriated patrons high in anticipation of the next day's nuptials seems to be the "culprit" here, a culprit the police should have recognized for what it was. Initial reports give the police scant little cover in the law of deadly force.

Here's how the NYPost covers it:
