Faith and Begorrah! The Irish have spoken
« on: May 23, 2015, 08:42:16 PM »
A large turnout on the gay marriage issue and a considerably large plurality of the Irish has decided that their gay countrymen can marry.

The opposition to gay marriage is in retreat everywhere, it would seem.

No surprise....morality, logic, and family values are in retreat everywhere
and we see the fruits of that retreat in the news every single day.

I can't say much for this particular issue but previously in ireland divorce became legal and i ask a friend about it and he said before that an annulment required five years separation to qualified by an approval from a priest. The very notion a person who can't marry is making judgements about relationships simply didn't sit well with the folks in ireland. So divorce became to better alternative.

So maybe something did not sit well with the people in ireland again

Gay marriage has nothing at all to do with morality.
Immorality would perhaps involve gay people sleeping around with bunches of lovers, prostitution themselves.

I don't  think you can blame Al Sharpton or "liberals" for the Irish approving of gays getting married.

I do not see anything illogical, immoral or lacking in family values among gay men or women that choose to get married. Those that do are probably lacking in their understanding about what logic, morality or family values are.

And of course, if this is true, then it would indicate that the Republican'ts and their ancient understanding of logic, morality and family values are on the decline.

The Holy Mother Church ran Ireland back in the days described in "Angela's Ashes".
Now women have jobs, girls who flirt are not kidnapped and enslaved by nuns in convents as washerwomen.

Ireland is no longer an impoverished country run by religious nut cases.

Why would you say this?

What is immorality ?

How or who defines it?

If promiscuity is immoral, then gay promiscuity would be more immoral than sex confined to gay married partners.

From a pragmatic standpoint, sex that is likely to spread sexually transmitted diseases is immoral.

Every society defines its own morality. Ireland has recently decided to abandon the morality of the Holy Mother Church and to adopt a more tolerant moral code.

Actually it might be a british thing. My favorite sci fi character is jack harkness a time travelling rogue in the bbc tv show torchwood. He's not gay he's sexually anything. The brits alot more open in matter of sexuality

A us torchwood was made awhile back but the writers made him more specificly gay. It seems to me the u.s. Has a problem with sexual ambiguity.

Jack harkness normally flirt with any nobody whose in his sight

The Church no longer is the source of traditional British morality.

The English love their churches the way that they love their antique furniture, much of which has survived so long because it is too uncomfortable to actually sit on for long periods of time. But no matter the practicality, it has sentimental value. A bit like  the Royals.
