The war was one of survival.   The lands taken were of the need to better defend themselves.  Israel may not be squeaky clean in their "assistance", with the Palestinians,  but given the ongoing war being run against them, with the sole goal of driving Israel from the region......i tive Israel far more latitude in defending themselves, than others I suppose.  If they wanted they could have annexed the entire region, even carpet bombed Palestinians, if they actually were of that mindset.   They just want to be left alone

Except they keep annexing more and more, moving 5he Arabs out and taking their land to build more settlements - in violation of numerous UN resolutions.

That's like, the US just wants to be left alone, but we keep annexing chunks of Canada or Mexico and forcing the rightful owners to move so we can build settlements in violation of international laws and treaties.

The question was, why are there still Palestinian refugees - it has been answered several times.

Because Israel still refuses to let them return to their homes and property they evacuated before Israel's 1947 war for independence, and because Israel has a policy of continuing to take Arab lands and refuse to allow them to return. This is in violation of several UN resolutions, the enforcement of which the US consistently blocks by using it's veto power as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Well, you would probably have to go back to the Dark Ages and Inquisition for examples of Christians behaving like the Taliban openly. Galileo was persecuted for saying the Earth revolved around the Sun, in opposition to what the Church taught based on their strict interpretation of Scripture at the time. Jews, and others, were tortured to force conversions to Christianity, or killed. The Muslim colonies in Europe, which had become centers of science and learning while the rest of Europe struggled through the Dark Ages, were wiped out. Sound familiar? Yes, Christianity had it's turn in the barrel too.

3DHS / Pope insists pedophile criminals be ‘severely’ punished'
« on: May 01, 2016, 01:52:41 PM »
VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis is insisting that pedophiles who abuse children be severely punished.

Speaking to faithful in St. Peter’s Square Sunday, he greeted an Italian organization dedicated to fighting child abuse.

Calling pedophilia a “tragedy,” Francis says “we mustn’t tolerate abuses on minors.” He adds “we must defend minors and severely punish the abusers.”

Francis didn’t mention pedophile scandals in the Catholic church in which bishops systematically transferred pedophile priests around parishes instead of reporting them to police. Victims’ groups have demanded Francis punish such bishops.

Italians were recently shocked by the death of a 6-year-old near Naples thrown from the roof of an eight-story building after trying to resist her rapist. An autopsy showed she suffered chronic sexual abuse. Investigators suspect neighbors knew about the abuse but didn’t tell police.

Now for the $64,000 question - does this include pedophile priests, or do they just get reassigned to a new parish?

The Bison Is Poised To Become The U.S. National Mammal
by Merrit Kennedy, April 29, 2016

The bald eagle may soon have a large, furry friend: The North American bison is on the verge of being named the first national mammal of the United States.

The House approved the National Bison Legacy Act on Tuesday, and it passed the Senate on Thursday. Now it's awaiting President Obama's signature to become law.

The measure says the bison is considered a "historical symbol of the United States" and it is "integrally linked with the economic and spiritual lives of many Indian tribes through trade and sacred ceremonies."

It adds that the bison adorns two state flags and is the official mammal or animal of three states.

As The Washington Post reports, the bison had a diverse team of backers making its case:

"Lobbying for the official mammal designation was a coalition of conservationists; ranchers, for whom bison are business; and tribal groups, such as the InterTribal Buffalo Council, which wants to 'restore bison to Indian nations in a manner that is compatible with their spiritual and cultural beliefs and practices.' "

The bison is an "icon that represents the highest ideals of America: unity, resilience and healthy landscapes and communities," says Wildlife Conservation Society president Cristián Samper, the newspaper reports.

Keith Aune, bison program director with the Wildlife Conservation Society, tells Here & Now that the bison has a "special place in our history":

"For us, there are several really important reasons we think bison deserve this designation. First off, it's a very economically important animal. There's a tremendous commercial industry, and it's a tremendous good red meat. And it also is ecologically very important. Our healthy prairies are really dependent on not just any grazing, but the right type of grazing – and bison are entirely adapted to the Great Plains and create that scenario."

That's along with its cultural significance to many tribal groups, Aune says.

He adds that the bison's comeback from a low of just hundreds is a "remarkable story."

The bill says efforts early last century to save the bison "resulted in the first successful reintroduction of a mammal species on the brink of extinction back into the natural habitat of the species."

According to the Post, bison now have a presence in every state, with about 20,000 living on public land.

What mammal do you think should become a symbol of the United States? Let us know in the comments.

Actually I spotted it while cruising the news.

If this is an ongoing grand jury investigation, and he is in contempt, generally he can be held without actual arrest until the grand jury either finishes it's investigatIon or it's term expires and a new grand jury is seated.

If someone visits him, they have to remain behind a barrier. Each month, he’s granted one fifteen minute phone call. Thus far, he’s had the opportunity to chat on the phone for an hour and forty-five minutes, because he’s been in solitary confinement for the past seven months.

The reason? He won’t give away the passwords to his encrypted hard drives, which were seized as part of a.....

He isn't charged with a crime , not yet , all of the presumed evidence is in his encrypted electronics.

He is merely in contempt of court.

Ordinary people are getting less and less right to keep anything private.

At some level of class , money and influence such rights are still precious.

I could be satisfied in two different ways.

If HRC were treated in the same way as a commoner.

Or.

If the privacy rights of the common man got same respect as Her Royal Clintoness.

Oh my....it is an investigation into child porn....he tried to unlock it but says he forgot the password....and he is in solitary for his own protection (since he was a police officer)....

So much for that.

Service animals have many different uses these days, not just as guide dogs. Some can sense when a diabetics blood sugar is too low, or if a seizure prone person may be about to have a seizure. Companion pets are used to calm anxiety - one of the more well-known uses is for veterans with PTSD. It is difficult to tell just by looking if a pet is a service animal.

Okay, I was going to let it pass, but noooooo......

Look back at what I said about opinions.

Did I say my arguments were not opinions? MY damned opinions? No.

Problem? Get off it.

Yes, it is. Try to force me to sell you a gun. Take me to court. I am a private owner. You can no more force that than you could force me to sell you my car, or my house.

There will always be ways out, there always have been. How do you think blacks were kept from moving into white neighborhoods years ago? I bet a lot of inventive excuses were made up by sellers and real estate agents. I bet a lot still are. But as people catch on, laws are passed and enforced, lawsuits are won, and discrimination, even disguised as something else, gets harder to get away with.

The law, like society, evolves. 'Good law' or 'bad law' is a matter of perspective.

Sorry, yes, if it is a private sale, you can sell or not to whomever you please.

A business, however, generally has a license issued by a local governing authority that is tasked with enforcing the law, including those against discrimination. That permit can be revoked if the business does not conform to those laws.

I could care less whether you agree with the law. If you don't, lobby to change it. In the meantime, you have two choices.

You can obey the law, keep your permit, and keep doing business.

You can ignore the law, and risk paying the penalties.

Look on the second option as an opportunity to become a martyr for the cause; to defy the law, spend everything you own fighting it, possibly end up in jail for contempt of the law, and so on. Then when you die and stand before your god you can beat your breast and tell him how dedicated you were to the cause. Might get you a mention in some heavenly journal and a house next door to Job or Daniel, or at the least a pat on the head and a cookie.

No one is saying you can't ignore the law.
