the catholic priests did not commit their crime in the name of their religion

ironic thing is they used to be just like this,in fact saudi arabia is still partially like this.

I`m not even sure this can be called a western corruption .if you look at the history of some of these countries, it`s highly possible they could of independently came up with these ideas
