I am an electrician.

I am qualified better than you are, to tell you whether the lamp is lit or not.

The main purpose of experts is expertise.

People have a right to believe in magical unicorns, so long as they do not require me to depend on their magic.

I don`t know about that but I`ve seen way too many layman who never at least research the matter say it`s safe to use cell phones on planes and totally believe they know more than the people who earns an income on the plane.

I just don`t want hear all those people chatter on the plane.

As long as experts disagree, it will remain fair to pick your favorite expert.

An American Airlines pilot told me that there were once some cell phone way back when that interfered with some of the navigation gizmos. Those phones are no longer in use, so there is no reason not to allow phones and other devices. MP3 players and laptops never caused any problems.

I agree that having a planeful of chattering people would be annoying.

that`s true and it probly why recently  a study came out confirming it. but a plane full of these distracted people  will bring harder to control issues since nobody will not listen to the staff now. from now on nobody will know any of the safety procedures or buckle their belt when asked.

about laptops and mp3 players it`s simply that rules/laws can be worked around by the wording so to prevent people to use some device out of a technicality a general rule about electronic devices was in place. also technology changes so fast it`s unknown if a newer device will transmit something harmful. it`s unlikely any designer will make devices and consider if it`s safe for plane travel.

so we`ll see if the latest computer with a new innovative wifi  device has no effects.

An MP3 only needs to transmit a signal to the earphones. If it transmits anything else, it would be a very weak signal.

but it`s totally and completely no ones jobs to know the difference between devices. also this is the days of multifunction devices so it`s not unreasonable to assume an mp3 can do more than we think. quite afew mp3 device has wifi  already.

There are standards about stray signals that all manufacturers have to follow.

Wi fi will not interfere with navigation equipment.

Since there is  always a choice of music available on every plane, I do not see this as any problem.

they must of beefed up those standards a few years ago. when win98 was around my screen would be effected when I get a call from my cell.

come to think of it some folks try very hard to keep using those phone due to their durability. I think I still see those old nokia`s around.
