Where do corks come from?

This site shows the cork oaks and how cork is harvested, mostly in Portugal and Spain.
A tree can be debarked up to 12 times, it says.

My neighborhood had one of those trees until this year when it fell in a storm.
Being planted in Georgia it was a one of a kind.

It was in the yard of my French neighbor, whose father was Spanish.

She is genuine French, raised in Casablanca during WWII, Planted in Ga, she is one of a kind.
