Where do you Stand?
« on: March 12, 2007, 01:10:41 PM »
I know, these tests are very limited, but they still offer a good overview of where one stands and how one's views have changed over the years. Here are a few online political tests to see where you stand. Report your results!

1. Political Compass This is the standard of online political marking.

2. Political Objectives

3. World's Smallest Political Quiz

I'm replacing the middle test with this one: Political Objectives Test which seems to be much more ideological than most.

Political Objectives Test
Social-Liberal
You scored 78 Equality, 78 Liberty, and 35 Stability!
Your commitment to both liberty and equality makes you a blend of the Liberal and the Socialist.

World's Smallest Political Quiz:
Left Liberal
Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 10%.

The Political Compass test is too long to do now. I've taken it before and I remember that I and Ark ended up in almost the same spot...far left quadrant.

Political Compass - Economic Left/Right: 4.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.41 Which puts me in the lower right quadrant. Apparently not as far economically right Milton Friedman but more libertarian. Which seems odd to me.

Political Objectives - Liberal with a score of 50 Equality, 85 Liberty, and 28 Stability. I'm not entirely sure what those scores mean. But I notice that the categories are intended to be international in nature, and since the description that was included seems fairly accurate in describing my position on liberty, I'm okay with scoring as a liberal.

World's Smallest Political Quiz - My Personal issues Score is 100%. My Economic issues Score is 100%. Which places me directly at the top of the graph. I'm not sure how accurate that really is. The truth is probably somewhere between this and the Political Compass graph.
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

You scored 64 Equality, 64 Liberty, and 50 Stability!

Your commitment to both liberty and equality makes you a blend of the Liberal and the Socialist. You value liberty particularly in cultural and personal life. You also value government intervention to promote equity in economic life while still supporting private enterprise. For you liberty and equality are two parts of the same condition. Everyone has to be free to pursue their own way-of-life but in order for that to happen everyone must start with a similar basic standard of living.

Here's the first question on the first quiz:

Quote
If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations.

That is a false choice.  There is no reason that serving the interests of humanity cannot serve the interests of trans-national corporations or vice versa.

Since I feel the logic of the question is flawed I disagree with it.  But, of course, saying that I disagree with it would be interpretted as answering in favor of corporations over humanity.

Here's another one:

Quote
Controlling inflation is more important than controlling unemployment.

Controlling the first helps control the second.  Another false choice.

There are several examples like this in these sorts of tests.  That's why I find them unreliable and biased.  Nevertheless, I took them for fun.

Quote
Your political compass

Economic Left/Right: 1.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.87

Quote
Political Objectives

Liberal-Conservative
You scored 50 Equality, 85 Liberty, and 78 Stability!

Your commitment to both liberty and stability makes you a blend of the Liberal and the Conservative. You value liberty particularly in economic life and embrace private enterprise. You also recognise the value of traditional culture and institutions. You are keen on notions of the person who is ambitious yet well-behaved. Occasionally your economic and cultural positions may clash but in general you will find practical ways to reconcile them.

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 99% on Equality

You scored higher than 99% on Liberty

You scored higher than 99% on Stability

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

LIBERTARIAN

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and

economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one

that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose

government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate

diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 90%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 90%.

Guess that clears things up!

Of course none of these tests are perfect, but they generally give a good idea of where one stands. It is interesting to note that some people won't take them (they are often afraid to be classified) and others game them to get a result they want. Still, I think the overall view of the people that have taken them so far is fair.

One note is that on tests that use international definitions, Americans tend to score higher on "libertarian" or "liberal" issues. In general the American populace favors individualism more than Europeans and Asians. There are, of course, exceptions to that, but our culture tends to promote those ideas more.

Political Objectives Test

You scored 92 Equality, 57 Liberty, and 50 Stability!

You are a bit difficult to classify. You may well be a Socialist. However your greater than average commitment to equality may make you more of a Utopian Socialist. On the other hand your secondary commitment to liberty may make you a Social-Liberal. Check all links and see what you think.
