That is a pretty good show.

Neat to check it for errors.

There was never a constitutional provision or federal law against women voting , this was always state law until an amendment took it over.

I agree that the electoral college is obsolete , but think of what it would take to make the change to something fair and agreeable to us all?

The only way to do is one person, one vote.
Why should someone have greater say in who the president is because he is surrounded by tumbleweeds and the odd cow?

As it is, the process means that presidential candidates only concentrate on maybe six states.

We should also hold national primaries on the same day for all parties. This crap where Iowans force us to pay for ethanol is just stupid.

The states are more and more irrelevant. I doubt that one in forty Floridians could tell you who their state Rep and Senator is, especially since there are term limits and they change frequently. The state legislature has more lobbyists than politicians.

A unicameral (one house) legislature makes a lot more sense than a two house one. Nebraska has the right idea. Half the Poli Sci majors have written about it, and agree.

We're not going to be run by mob majority where the urban centers dictate how the rest of the country is going to cow tow to them.  The Founders were smart enough to figure that out, before there were even urban centers.   Sorry, but it's Constitutional.

The Founding Fathers owned plantations and mistrusted city people. The time for acreage to determine who runs the country has clearly passed. In 1790 this was a rural country and only about a third of the men and none of the women were even eligible to vote. It was democratic compared with George III's England. It is not longer democratic now compared with the rest of the democratic nations. People in Wyoming hardly deserve to have five times the say of people in California or NY. They may be just as smart, but are not five times as smart.

It is time to throw the goddamned Electoral College out with the trash and let the people rule.  Trump seems to be doing a fine job helping the Republican Party commit suicide, with the help of the rabble you despise.

Yo, professor....the Founders even considered your rather twisted view of reality, and put in place the mechanisms to either change, or even abolish the Electoral College.   Good luck with that

The early congress included lawyers and urban dwellers, who agreed to a compromise that would keep the smaller states from being steamrollered in every election.

If the Senate is abolished and the rule really becomes one man one vote , then the entire country will be run by urbanites.

Then it would soon fall apart, our biggest export and most important domestic product is farm and ranch produce.

We already have trouble with the strength of Urban voting causing the countryside to be run as if it were city.

If this compromise that protects the small is reversed , the small ought to abandon the many in these dependent cities.

Can big city America survive without flyover country? No.

Can big city America ruin flyover country ?  Oh yes , we have been on the very edge of doing so for years.

The people who manage agrobusiness do not live on the farms where crops are grown. The percentage of Americans who actually live in the sticks is under 5%, and half of those own only small farms.

Europe consists of mostly city dwellers as does Japan, and both have high productivity with regard to food and other crops.

Your argument is bogus.
The Electoral College was created because of slavery and the unequal sizes of several states. The idea wasto impose a balance between the slaveholding plantstion states and the smaller more industrial ones.

Virginia was the most productive state by far in 1790, by the way. West of the Alleghenies the disparity is much less.

One citizen, one vote, with all votes being equal is true democracy.
Most of the wealth of this country is non agricultural.
The assumption that city people do not understand sustainable agriculture is also bogus.
Here in Florida, the Everglades is being destroyed by Florida Crystals and other sugar growers. Lake Okeechobee is filled with algae blooms and we have huge algae blooms along the coast.
The people who understand conservation of natural resources are urban dwellers.

Regardless of your rather warped view of things, the FACT remains that Founders even considered your rather twisted view of reality, and put in place the mechanisms to either change, or even abolish the Electoral College.   Or you can just keep looking pathetic with these mental tantrums, that amount to nothing.

Again,  slavery and the desire to balance the inequality between the slave and free states were the main reason for the stupid Electoral College. So was the idea that slaves were counted as 3/5ths of a white citizen for the sake of representation.

The representatives in the North certainly did more to benefit the slaves than those in the South.

That's all well and good.....and I hear that the cliffs of Yosemite are prettier than the fog of the Blue Ridge Mountains.....and just as relevant.  The Electoral College isn't going anywhere, unless the Constitution is amended.  Simple as that.  So you can waste as much bandwidth as you'd like, but until its amendmend, the Constitution (& the Electoral College) will continue to protect us from your side's urban mob mentality rule

Democracy is not mob mentality.  That is just absurd.

It is, when its majority madness eminating from the most urbanized locations in the country, wanting to pass laws that help only their urban centers, dictating what everyone else is to do and be taxed for, regardless of how rural a location they live or how little their urbanized legislation helps them

Take a guess at the top 10 highest poverty level cities in the country.  Then take a guess at which party has been in charge of those urban strongholds.  Your answer provides the very reason the Electoral College is still as vital today as when it was put into the Constitution

This is one of the objectionable results of the death tax.

There are still farms , and there are still farmers on these farms, but they do not own the farm their grandfathers built , every generation that has passed has given the government a chance to convert this land to cash and demand the cash.

Urbanites do not care that maintaining a farming family tradition is very difficult and becoming more so.

Only a small fraction of  those who would owe an inheritance tax are farmers, and the starting point of the inheritance tax begins at assets OVER ELEVEN MILLION DOLLARS. There is no requirement that people sell anything to pay the tax, anyway. If you have $11,000,000 in assets, borrowing against them is not going to present a major hardship, anyway.

I fail to understand why the 98% of the people of this country should be opposed to an inheritance tax thar will never affect them in the slightest.

  At this point yes.

Most of the confiscation of these farms happened while the threshold was much lower.

Are you sure about that figure now?

The destruction of the family farming tradition is pretty well accomplished , the confiscation of small business assets continues .

Most Americans oppose these confiscations  because they are an obvious bad idea. Many thousands uf us would still be on farm if it were possible.
