I would certainly take CU far more seriously than the Murdock-owned WSJ, but I have not read any washing machine reviews in CR lately.

They published one earlier this year in their online edition:

My house is small, the washing machine sits out on the patio.

A new washer costs around $400, I can get a good used one, delivered and hooked up, for under $150 with all the features I want, and they last for around five years or so.

I have better ways of spending the $250 more I would have to pay for a new one.
