I just heard a report that this school had a security system , such that visitors had to be buzzed in by a locked door .

Being one of the teacher's sons they probably buzzed him in.
But I did see one report he was dressed up in a black ninja suit.
Now that might be odd to buzz him in wearing something like that.
I guess we'll find out soon enough.

If I have a good idea , I will share it , but with no illusion that I can solve this problem.

Excellent starting point.  I suppose extending the perimeter with fencing that also has a security mechanism may help

It should come as no surprise, when you think about it, that sirs is not an NRA member. Judging by his actions in here sirs is a taker, not a giver.

CU, yes, I was at Ft. Hood for a while, and I also lived in Colo. and had a job that took me all over the west. I like Texas. I like big sky country. Most native New Englanders don't like the open spaces having grown up surrounded by trees, but I do. I think often about moving to either Texas, New Mexico, or Montana.

SIRS....

The worst US school mass murder happened and the kids were not killed by gunfire!

On May 18, 1927, 45 people, mostly children, were killed and 58 were injured when disgruntled and demented school board member Andrew Kehoe dynamited the new school building in Bath, Michigan out of revenge over his foreclosed farm due in part to the taxes required to pay for the new school.

The biggest school disaster was probably in New London, TX in 1937.

300 students were blown up when natural gas filled a school building and blew up.
http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/natural-gas-explosion-kills-schoolchildren-in-texas

I think the Parade Gas Co. was one of H.L. Hunt's operations.

The aftermath was putting that stinky stuff in natural gas so people would know there was a leak before they got blown to smithereens.

One gun nut still cannot hope to compete with an incompetent Texas oilman.

Speaking of deadly fumes...I have about 5 of these puppies at my house:
Carbon Monoxide Alarm

going to sleep healthy and not waking up scares the hell outta me.
One in my bedroom, one in my garage, one in my utilty room,
one upstairs and one in my kitchen.

I suppose that a CO detector is not a major expense for you, but how would Carbon Monoxide get into your house? It does not occur in nature, and no one burns Coal Gas anymore.  I suppose a car in a closed garage with the motor running would be the only likely source, and not all that likely.

Or anybody for that matter...
how could anything $39 be too expensive to save your life?
I think if I couldn't afford $39 to save my life
I'd get a prt-time job or sacrifice something else for awhile

how would Carbon Monoxide get into your house?

natural gas furnace
natural gas water heater
gas appliances
gas lamps

One cause of CO poisioning in recent years has been conversion from fuel oil to natural gas furnace , if done improperly the soot in the chimney slumps and blocks off the exaust.

I am sharing this story because I am Adam Lanza’s mother. I am Dylan Klebold’s and Eric Harris’s mother. I am Jason Holmes’s mother. I am Jared Loughner’s mother. I am Seung-Hui Cho’s mother. And these boys—and their mothers—need help. In the wake of another horrific national tragedy, it’s easy to talk about guns. But it’s time to talk about mental illness.

Rough to read that.

Do we understand mental illness enough to do something about it ?

Perhaps we should understand mental illness enough to recognize which patients could be a danger to others.

I have one of those detectors in my pad. It's a law. We have lots of laws here in Mass.
