Looks like Pac-man caught you.

Could a recliner be modified ?

Looks like a plywood and upholstery project.

look easy enough just build a hard shell around the upper part of the recliner to isolate the upper body from outside sights and sounds.
doubtful it has to be completely sound proof just enough to muffle things
probly a foam interior .
not sure if music is good or bad for it`s purpose

Perhaps a noise canceling system.

With a blank CD in the player it should give a quiet quiet.

I`m gonna sound backwards, but i`m scared of noise cancellng devices.
I just don`t think thier good for the ears.
using sound to cancel sound doesn`t ring all that healthy to me.
I think it`s gonna make people go deaf .
see I am a old folgy

You just need a better breifing on how it works.

A positive wave plus a negative wave = nothing.

Putting the noise 180 out of phase with itself destroys it.

Imagine a set of walls set across a feild from you .

Every other one is set a half wavelength further back than the front row so that they form a twin row staggered in frount of you.

Like this-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

You would only get a very weak echo because the echo of the second rank would be 180 out of phase with the echo of the frount. If the frount row were laid down the strong echo would reappear.

This would have to be calculated to match the main frequency of your voice someone with a voice several octaves diffrent would not see this effect unless the separation of the walls was adjusted to destroy his echo.

There is a bank of steps on a pyramid in Mexico that seems to sound like twittering birds , it is actually an example of the opposite of this effect the spaceing of the steps reinforces a particular set of frequencys by being about a quarter wavelength deep , it selectively returns a strong echo at this frequency with the rest of the sounds not amplified so much.

Oh and if you find a large corrigated culvert make a loud sharp noise in frount of it , the weirdness of a long tapering strangely pitched echo is hard to beat.

So what is happening is like an electronic noisemaker that repeats what it hears precicely out of phase , destroying the origional sound in a small area.

I understand but that funny feeling i get in my ears when it`s on creeps me out
That stuffed ear feeling just don`t seem right to me.
I`m not exactly all that civilized yet.
give me time to catch up with the 20th century.

Hmmmm...

I wonder what is causeing that?

Could an imperfection in the match be produceing a strange small noise?

could be psychological
I notice even though I factually know stuff I still get effected by things I shouldn`t be.
ex. asprin ,I know it should take awhile to kickin ,I feel the effect in seconds.
samething with glucosamine .
my primative subconscience mind is alot more in control than average. I`m guessing.

I rarely get a headache or a muscle pain, but when I do, I take an Ibuprofin or a Napoxil Sodium and th pain goes away in five minutes or less.

I think you really are feeling the effect. It's not psychosomatic.

The psychosomatic effect can be very powerfull.

Some Buddist monks are so into controlling their bodies withtheir minds that they become interestiong to science for the ability to controll bodily functions normally not considered controllable.

The anticipation of pain can cause you a head ache , if you are in the middle of a head ache and expect it to continue ,the prospect of relief can take a lot of pressure off.

IS some of this relief availible through meditation? I think so , but strictly for those willing to meditate quite a lot.

I am sure that meditation can control a lot more than Western medicine gives it credit for, but it is a matter of technique, and learning the technique requires a lot of practice.

I find meditation extremely difficult.
so much to sort out for a novice for me
it`s not just closing your eyes and humming.
but I still keep trying

Have you tried playing those recordings of chanting Tibetan monks, or Indian ragas?

I find those helpful.

Actually, these chants are used to put the chanters in a trance. If you practice them enough and you understand the ritual, they probably work pretty well.

Meditation is not thinking. Meditation is looking inward and seeing harmony with the world around and within at the same time.

I might be doing it wrong.
When I do it I discovered a new form of concentration which require total absence of effert
I can only do it for a few seconds
it is so extyremely hard to maintain this relax state
but I can do so much in those seconds
am I doing it wrong?

I have not been able to attain this, but this is what is described in Zen literature.
If you find out how to sustain it, let me know.

I will tell you the one my father taught me.

Dim the light and lie still in a quiet comfortable place.

Pay attention very closely to the feeling of one toe.

After a while you will be able to feel your pulse in your toe.

At this point shift focus to another toe and repeat.

When you have felt the pulse in each toe you will have been absolutly quiet and still for fifteen minutes without realy noticeing the passage of time .

If you are still awake , try to feel your pulse in your feet and legs , fingers and where ever elese .

The pulse feeling is always there , but it is a tiny thing that is never noticed without either an unusually strong pulse or a very strong concentration of attention.

I`ll tell one thing great about this.
I don`t need books anymore to ocupy my time.
on long trips I got plenty to do now.
on this journey I don`t care how long it takes.
I don`t know about other`s but this aint boring.

I don`t think I care if I make it.
is that wrong?

Thanks for the technique. I read something like this in a magazine, but I don't think it mentioned using the toe.

Are you going on an actual trip, or is this a metaphor?

I enjoy reading more than I enjoy meditation. This could be because I am more used to it and better at entertaining myself with books and magazines than with meditation.

I meant travelling in general.
I like reading better also
but find it a hassle to carry all those books.
and I rarely get a e-book worth reading.
the selections(free wise) is very slim
also meditation is so far a very good sleep-aid for me
better than the pills

Definitely I agree on this one.

The use of gongs in Buddhist temples is to waken those who appear to be meditating, but are merely dozing.

Have you ever investigated "lucid dreaming"?

but from what I just read from wiki I just had sleep paralysis last night.

i normally don`t get nightmares.
probly from stress
I`m more stressful these days
I got no idea what i was dreaming
