It would not be bad then to have a lot of Mexicans bring us their Youth and energy, if they understand what is good and powerfull in our system they will enhance it with a bit of new knoledge.

When he could have saved them at Rechjavic , he did not throw them a line.

When he could have allowed the arms race to carry on in the same stodgy way , he accellerated it without makeing it more threatening.

When he wernt ot Berlin he reminded the world that since Kennedy there had been no improvemnent on the other side of the wall , they still needed the wall to have anyone stay.

He branded them an "Evil Empire " and what do you know, it stuck.

He did a dozen other things , but I should not give the impression that he was alone. Pope John Paul II and Mathiaas Rust and Margreat Thatcherand many another did their part.

But most of all it was the Communism and the Russian people being tired of trying to become new soviet men.

Ditto his branding of them as the "Evil Empire."  More straight-outta-Hollywood schlock.  The only effect I saw it have here in Canada was it probably tripled the amount of ridicule heaped on his head by our press.

Gorbachov did not send troops because it was against his values. Reagan had very little to do with it. The USSR had lost in Afghanistan, and the army was exhausted, anyway.

It's nice to believe that an ancient, wrinkled old actor could defeat an empire by reciting his linews really forcefully. But it's just not true.

Apparently ALL government run schools and highways are "Communist" and therefore should be abolished. That is the implication.

NO one is forced to send their children to public schools in the US. Therefore, the US is NOT like a Communist countries.

I know of NO ONE who advocates making private schools illegal. Who did you have in mind?

All schools need to be regulated in some way to assure that students are learning basic skills. Do you think private schools should be entirely unregulated?

I know I don't. My daughter went to a private school and by the third grade had no useful knowledge of the multiplication tables. I had to teach her these myself.

There have been statements around here about eliminating homeschooling, and making public schools the only form of education.

All schools need to be regulated in some way to assure that students are learning basic skills. Do you think private schools should be entirely unregulated?

Homeschooling is among the least regulated forms of schooling, and consistently produces a higher quality of education.
