The thing about vaccines
« on: June 30, 2015, 11:46:36 PM »
I acknowledged it steps over peoples rights to get people vaccinated. I would be alittle suportive if some of them didn't say the craziest reason why they don't do it. I also fear the fervor to vaccinate will push vaccines to people with valid health issues

Vaccines are effective at eliminating disease and the nonsense that they cause autism is simply that: nonsense.
You can refuse to get your kid vaccinated, and the school can refuse to enroll him. That is how to manage this.

Is it realistic to disseminate enough truth and education to get the needed number immunized?

The numbers are funny, if you immunize only a few the disease can flow as in the wild, if you immunize half the population you have still only protected those directly immunized.

But somewhere between 100% and 50% there is a number of persons immunized that is enough and the disease stops spreading because contact between non immunized people is too scarce for normal rates of transmission.

I am reluctant to make immunization mandatory , but making it very common is a benefit even to the non immunized  people protected indirectly .

Now i heard vaccines are spreading the disease . The flaw i see with that idea is wouldn't we of notice that decades ago and notice a much higher failure rate on vaccines overall

Most of the anti-vaccine propaganda is just Internet hysteria.  Vaccines do not spread disease.

This could happen, and has , as a defect in the manufacture of the vaccine.
Pretty rare tho, not nearly as dangerous as natural occurrence of disease.

I was vaccinated against smallpox and polio when I was young, much to my mothers relief.

Part of the problem might be that anti viral strategies have been successful to the point that there is a lot less public fear of such disease than there ought to be.

Vaccines are clearly the way to eliminate these diseases. I had the measles for three weeks. It was truly miserable. OI also had the mumps and the chicken pox. There were no vaccines then against these diseases. I made sure my daughter was vaccinated, and she never had any of them.

Kimba....

I wish I could get my niece here on DebateGate.
She is a doctor in the LA area and totally involved in the Cali vaccine fight.
She has met with legislators.
She has home schooled her kids...one of them is 16 and in college already.
I don't know enough about the details to debate the issue.
I still kind of see both sides...but usually agree with her on most issues.
I stay away from flu shots and most vaccines when I can.
But I am still undecided on the school vaccine issue.
Here are some pictures she sent me recently.

Would you get the vaccine against shingles now?

Quote
The shingles vaccine, Zostavax, contains a weakened chickenpox virus (varicella-zoster virus). The shingles vaccine helps stimulate your immune system to battle disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus, reducing the risk of getting shingles in people ages 60 and older. In scientific studies, the shingles vaccine reduces the risk of developing shingles by about 50%.

When I was about 62, I went to the doctor with an itch. He looked at it and said "That is a classic case of shingles" and he gave me a shot.
The shingles went away, the itching stopped in under a week and I have never had a recurrence.

Not only do I get a flu shot every year, I get a shot at a medical lab that is always working on new vaccines, and they pay me. Last year I got $150.
I also have never had the flu.

there is no way I would allow some lab to shoot experimental vaccines in me for a mere $150
2EachHisOwn....but hell that sounds crazy!
i would maybe allow experimental/clinical trial type stuff if i was Stage 4 Cancer

So basicly the question is which is more dangerous the disease or the cure and despite data that likely say the disease. Is it worth risking getting the disease.

Remember the old cure was exposing children to build immunity. Which no one has a problem doing.

OF COURSE the disease is worse than the cure.

I have had several varieties of the flu and each time it has made me miserable for at least two weeks.

I have never, ever had a single problem with any vaccine, and I think that is pretty typical.
