Biden: 'Iraq Study Group may miss the most important point'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Joe Biden, the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Thursday the reported conclusions of the Iraq Study Group do not go far enough in ensuring the establishment of a stable democracy in the war-torn country.

"I'm concerned the Iraq Study Group may miss the most important point: the need for a strategy to build a sustainable political settlement in Iraq," The Delaware Democrat said in a statement. "Bringing the neighbors in and starting to get our troops out are necessary, but not sufficient."

Biden, who has indicated he plans to seek the presidency, has repeatedly promoted his plan to decentralize Iraq.

"The best way to get a sustainable political settlement is through federalism: maintaining a unified Iraq, but decentralizing the country and giving its groups breathing room in their own regions," Biden said.

-- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

That's great.  Another made-in-America solution for the problems of Iraq.

How about leaving them alone to sort out their own problems themselves?

There is a major push to get a deal before the new congress takes power. Time is running out. The Democrats have only two choices. What the voters ask them to do and what Bush wants them to do.

Larry, I hope you're not going to be too disappointed when the Democrats don't do jack-shit to end the war here and now.  The obvious solution is to cut off all further funding, which Nancy Pelosi has already said will not happen.  The reason being not wanting to cut off the troops.

The U.S. is in the last throes of a transition from a democratic Republic to a militaristic fascist oligarchy.  When the demands of "the Army" take precedence over the will of the people's democratically elected representatives, you know you are moving into some pretty sick and dangerous times.  When the elected representatives don't have the balls to tell the Army and its civilian overseers, "You better start making plans to move these folks out and protect the evacuation," you are just steps away from military dictatorship in one form or another.

I think that Al Queda has got to be dismayed .

WE are spending a lot and looseing a lot and hurting a lot but compared in purportion to Al Quedas investment we have not been suffering nearly so much.

After devoteing thousands of their own deaths to it , and offering the deaths of tens of thousands of innocents Iraquis to it they have acheived an effect on the election in the USA .

To no practical effect on their case .
