Two suspects shot in botched home burglary attempt in Atascocita

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable lieutenant Walter Stensland speaks to the media at the scene
of an attempted burglary on the 8700 block of Rolling Rapids Road in Atascocita.

Two women suspected of attempting to burglarize a house in the Walden on Lake Houston subdivision were shot by the homeowner after they reportedly broke into his residence Wednesday afternoon.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Deputies responded around 1:30 p.m. to the 8700 block of Rolling Rapids Road after receiving calls that two people were trying to break into a house in the area.

The homeowner, who was not identified, called law enforcement to report that two females were throwing rocks at his windows in an attempt to break in, said Harris County Precinct 4 Lt. Walter Stensland.

"The homeowner never answers the door during the day," Stensland explained.

The suspects were able to break the glass near the front of the residence and reach into the house to unlock the door.

At that point, the homeowner responded with a shotgun.

"Shots were fired. Both suspects were hit in the upper torso," Stensland said.

One of the suspects collapsed inside the house while the other stumbled outside and across the street to a neighbor's front yard.

The suspects were not from the area and drove onto the street in a car that was reported stolen earlier in the day.

Atascocita Volunteer Fire Chief S. Conley confirmed that two females were airlifted to an area hospital for treatment.
He described one as being in critical condition, while the other was in stable at the time of the incident.

The homeowner was not injured.

According to information from the Observer's newspartner, "Both suspects are expected to survive but they may have suffered lifelong injuries. The older suspect in her mid-20s was out of surgery Wednesday night, but may be paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury. The 17-year-old suspect, who remained in surgery Wednesday night, may lose an arm."

Both the circumstances and the area are unusual for this kind of crime.

"That is very unusual," to have two female suspects, Stensland said. "This is an awesome neighborhood, it's usually pretty quiet."

The crime is still under investigation. The suspects, described only as two black females, have not yet been identified.

I suspect that there is more to this story.

Women are rarely burglars. Burglars normally do not throw rocks to break into houses.

yeah like meth
meth makes people doing crazy shit
we've lost 3 great employees over the years to meth
they were outstanding then turned into nightmares
one ended up in prison
the other two have pretty much turned their life around...at least for now

It sounds like these women knew the guy.

Not even meth makes women do incompetent breaking and entries at random houses.

  Incompetent as burglars.

They might have been incompetent to start with.

I agree with XO, they were from outside the area, which is unusual for beginner burglars.

Burglars begin with near victims and relatives.

And if these two knew this guy , they didn't know his work hours.

There could be more to find.
