Foley garbage

Primo wagon circling.

2567
Here's the thing.

Hastert's ignoring Foley's "proclivities" isn't that far of a stretch.  Clearly, Foley knew there might be trouble so he was letting everyone know that he wasn't going to run again but even AFTER seeing the emails, Reynolds convinced Foley to run again.

For me, there is no scenario where the Speaker isn't going to know what the situation is with who is running and who isn't and why and what the wherefores are.  Especially GOP-wise.  They're already kind of sweating over the elections because the whole thing is going down the drain in Iraq.  OF COURSE, Hastert is going to look the other way when he gets wise to Foley being "too friendly with the pages".  Of course, Hastert is going to look the other way when Foley writes a fat $100 grand check.  OF COURSE, Hastert would look away from an ephebophile like Foley as long as everyone understood that if it got out, Foley would be instantly gone and they would all play along and feign outrage and put it to bed quickly.

But that didn't happen in the end.  They thought they had the press in their pocket but Brian Ross wouldn't play ball.  (Ten to one he catches a bullet in the next year or so or winds up on A Current Affair on the skiing-squirrel beat.)

I think that if they thought that all he had done was send some "naughty emails" and hadn't actually raped any underage kids, no one would care.  But unfortunately, they have been hammering on the whole MySpace thing and so parents are in a dither over internet stalkers and "pervs" talking to their kids.  Not to mention, the Dateline guy who catches the "pervs" coming to meet underagers.

This is a case of "leaders" being out of touch with their people and thinking that they can do no wrong and no one ever has to take responsibility for anything.  Ever.

(And I still haven't posted about how YET AGAIN when something that stinks gets in the wind about the GOP, a truly horrible tragedy "unbelievably" happens like the Amish school shootings.  It has been modus operandi for them since 2000.  The GOP gets their ass in a crack, some kids get shot or a bomb goes off in some embassy somewhere or a "plot" is foiled and completely knocks the GOP ass-in-crack story gets knocked back below the fold.)

Ashcroft chartered plane after same warning Condi ignored
by blue meme
Wed Oct 04, 2006 at 01:13:26 PM PDT

The White House is in full panic mode trying to find a way to spin the now-admitted fact that George Tenet did indeed brief Condi Rice on July 10, 2001 about the terror threat.  The latest damage control approach has been to claim that the report was "nothing new".

So how come when then-Attorney General John Ashcroft heard the same warning a week later, he immediately stopped flying commercial aircraft?

    * blue meme's diary :: ::
*

Christy Hardin Smith at FDL runs down a bunch of the story of the July 10, 2001 terror briefing Condi somehow failed to remember.  She also touches on the fact that George Tenet gave the same warning to John Ashcroft exactly a week later.

It seems to me that we ought to be asking whether that story has anything to do with this one, dated July 26, 2001:

Fishing rod in hand, Attorney General John Ashcroft left on a weekend trip to Missouri Thursday afternoon aboard a chartered government jet, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.

"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.

Got that?  July 17 -- Ashcroft briefed.  July 28 -- Ashcroft flies in a charter, leased, according to the article, earlier that week.

Seems to me this could be another blockbuster.  If Ashcroft decided that commercial flights were too dangerous based on the same warning as Rice (who presumably wasn't flying commercial flights either) ignored, we have ourselves some rather dramatic evidence of callous indifference and willingness on the part of the Bush Administration to put the preservation of their own hides before their duty.  It will be tough for Rice to argue that the briefing was nothing new if it scared Ashcroft away from flying with commercial airlines.

Embattled House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) has told conservative activist Paul Weyrich that he would resign if it would help the Republicans, Congressional Quarterly is reporting.

"He said if he thought that resigning would be helpful to the Republicans maintaining the majority, he would do it," Weyrich said in an interview. "But he did not think it would helpful for Republicans."

Yep, just out to keep power with no regard to his own failings and horrible inactions.

Aide Told Hastert About Foley 3 Years Ago

(AP) WASHINGTON A senior congressional aide said Wednesday he told House Speaker Dennis Hastert's office about worrisome conduct by his former boss, Rep. Mark Foley, toward teenage pages more than three years ago, long before officials have acknowledged becoming aware of the issue.

Ouchie.

Kirk Fordham told The Associated Press that when he was told about Foley's inappropriate behavior toward pages, he had "more than one conversation with senior staff at the highest level of the House of Representatives asking them to intervene."

Still not seeing how anyone (except possibly Foley) has done anything wrong.

So, then are you one of the people who is denying that there has been a concerted effort to circle the wagons?   Because if you are then you may not understand what the phrase "circle the wagons" means.

I mean you posts are the definition of the "circling the wagons".

Actually, I was talking about Foley. He hasn't done anything illegal, as far as I can tell. And neither has Hastert.

Besides, the votes don't seem to be a big deal. The Dems covered up something similar for 10 years, and the guy involved got re-elected 5 times after it came out.

Doesn't seem to be such a big deal for most. Only seems big among the liberals, who apparently like to dig into people's private lives and keep lists of people sexual predilections.
Illegal?  Maybe, maybe not.  The investigation is only now kicking off.

But even FOLEY admits that the messages (IM's and emails) were "totally inappropriate".  So, the original wagon circling done by BT and I think sirs won't fly either.  He admitted to sending all of it.

And the fact that he himself says they were "totally inappropriate" is enough to sink him and if Hastert is proven to have known about his behaviour then that is ample to sink him as well in the same way it has sank Fordham.  This is deep and the poo-poo'ing that you doing is totally outrageous and disgusting.

FBI Contacting Pages; Evidence Foley Solicited Sex

October 03, 2006 6:51 PM

Jason Ryan and Maddy Sauer Report:

Foley_fbi_nrFBI agents have begun to contact former congressional pages in the growing investigation of disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley, according to federal law enforcement officials.

At least one former page has reportedly offered evidence that Foley sought to solicit sex during instant message exchanges over the Internet.

The "preliminary investigation" appears to be heading towards a full field investigation, according to one official.

Officials say Foley's extensive knowledge of child exploitation laws may have helped guide him as to how far he could go without violating the law.

Instant messages obtained by ABC News indicated Foley met or arranged to meet young men under the age of 18 who had been pages.

Despite the fact that Foley's attorney has said Foley admits to sending the "totally inappropriate" e-mails and IMs, the FBI has still not seized his computer and hard drive.

"Mark has absolutely agreed on his own and with our counsel not to do anything with any computer, not to delete any messages, not to obliterate or attempt to obliterate any IMs, e-mails, Internet communications," said Roth.

The FBI confirmed today that it has not drawn up a search warrant for the equipment because the investigation is still preliminary, and they are still examining the messages they've obtained so far.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS!!!

First, O'Reilly last night put up a graphic of Foley numerous times with (D-Florida) after his name and never corrected it, and now THIS.

PLUS the freaking AP did THIS:

Gosh why is he doing this?  Nobody did anything wrong.  Right, Wagon circlers?

Reynolds chief of staff “resigns.”

ABC News reports that Kirk Fordham, the former chief of staff to Mark Foley and current chief of staff to Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-NY), has “resigned amid questions over whether he supressed information about Foley emails.”  1:44 pm | Comment (6)

Case you missed it Mikey, Foley resigned days ago, at the GOP Leaderships urging.

Some circling of wagons.
But not before urging him to run again when he was thinking about not running again and KNOWING that he had inappropriate discussions with an underage page.

But that's just a little too non-technicality-laden for you apparently.

But...

GOP members and staffers knew about Foley's behavior for over 11 years, former page says
by John in DC - 10/04/2006 12:12:00 AM

Washington Post

"Mark Foley knew that he could get away with this type of behavior with male pages because he was a congressman," [former page Mark] Beck-Heyman said. "But many people on Capitol Hill, including many high-level Republican staffers and members, have known for over 11 years about what was going on and chose to do nothing."

http://americablog.blogspot.com/

I'm sure you count this as hearsay or something that is good and hair-split.  Why not just admit they knew and didn't care?  In fact, that they worked to hide it from Dems?

Dude,

Hastert knew enough a year ago.  So did Reynolds and all the rest.

They just didn't care as long as Foley didn't get caught.  Problem is, he got caught and his own team dropped a dime on him.

The house of cards is crashing in on you and the people you have supported and protected for five years +.

I'm not gloating, I'm just trying to point it out to you that I've been right all along.  They have wanted to keep power no matter what.  This isn't just the Foley thing crashing you guys' game.  It's Foley + Rice lying about Tenet's briefing (10 on a scale of 1 to 10) + Woodward's book (I won't withdraw even if its only Laura and Barney supporting me) + FOX having the story on Foley and not running it + FOX trying to make Foley out to be a Democrat + 100 attacks a day in Iraq that Bush lies about + Cheney STILL trying to say that there was a connection between Saddam and 9.11 + the bullshit stories that the ABC MOW tried to spread that Clinton somehow missed bin Laden numerous times + Clinton putting the smackdown on Chris Wallace.

And the election is next month.

Now this doesn't even get into the whole theory that even my extremely mild-mannered and level-headed wife is now considering that I put forth back just post-9.11 that the neo-cons are in collusion with the DLC types and all this GOP horror fest is just so these cultists can keep power under the guise of the Democratic brand.  Try getting your head around that one.

They work together throughout the Clinton years under the guise of triangulation and then they hand the whole thing over to the neo-cons who really want to invade Iraq and get their hands on as much resources as possible plus set up military bases that make world-domination easier and then in order to keep those people from being lynched by 2008, they start the slow implosion of the GOP so that when Hillary and the gang steal the '08 election no one will make one peep because who wouldn't vote the opposite of the people who protected a ephebophile?

If over the next two years, the GOP continues to slide down and down, I'll have no choice but to believe this to all be the absolute case.  The rabbit hole goes deeper than we think.
