Good short article.

"A surprisingly rational view (if you can ignore they story’s subtext that Al Jazeera is really run by Zionists). "

“The Al-Jazeera network’s recent insult of the Iranian nation was totally unacceptable. The Arabic network, which broadcasts its programs from the little Arab country Qatar, has recently posted an insulting cartoon about the Islamic Republic of Iran on its English site.”

Sometimes it does work to kill them with kindness.

Any idea what the colestorol rate is in the diet of these guys?

Seriously though , this reminds me of "The Great Escape" or "Escape from Colditz" two movies and books I love but would not want in the Gitmo liabrary. There is some possibility that some prisoners will respond to kind treatment and turn over to our side. This is usually a scarce event in any circumstance but in the case of a strong prisoner organization it becomes even more unlikely.

If we are going to treat them so well , it would be best to isolate them from the potential of co-operation , and maximise every chance for them to realise their error and change sides.

Boy it certainly is a good thing this was sidetracked , if the Shah had built some reactors twenty yers ago the Aiatollas might have dozens of bombs now.

Especially if the r3eactors could be made into "breeder " reactors.

Another excellent hypothetical, Plane

You've got to be kidding.

No we are not kidding , would you want to have Ammonium Nitrate and concentrated Hydrgen peroxide to be tracked by the federal government ?

Most of the tonnage of these things is bought by legitimate Farmers Beauty shopps and rocket hobbyists , only a tiny fraction is ever bought by the likes of Timothy McVeigh or "Shoebomber" Reid.

So for the privacy of Farmers and beuticians and rocket builders should the Federal monitoring of the sale of these chemicals be restricted?

Hmmmmm, she must have missed seeing the question again       :-\       At least that's the only thing that comes to mind, since lanya appeared to be taking a more principled stand at answering questions.  Or so I was lead to believe.  Perhaps that's where the irony is

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

Lanya can't be compelled , I am glad she has brought up an interesting topic even if she has lost intrest in it.

If Timothy McVeigh had been given a very quick and questionable trial and executed in secret before the ink was dry on his death warrant , that would be something like what has happened in Indonesia.

The diffrrence between this and Prisoners of War is tha Prisioners of war ought never be tried for acts of war , unless the acts rise ti the level of war crimes.

I am entirely and energeticly against putting the ordinary footsoldier of Al Quedia on trial , if our troops are captured by the enemy should they be tried? I think not , they should be treated as POWs and given reasonable care untill they can be released either in an exchange or at the close of hostility.

The call for trials for POWs is contrary to the Geneva Convention and is a very bad idea, only a few of the Al Quieda should be tried for war crimes , most of them should be eventually released, generally in exchange for one of ours.

If we try them and sentence them ,what will we trade for our own when they may be captured?

"...she was accused of committing “acts incompatible with chastity.” The teenage victim had no access to a lawyer at any stage and efforts by her family to retain one were to no avail. Ateqeh personally defended herself. She told the religious judge, Haji Rezaii, that he should punish those who force women into adultery, not the victims. The judge used harsh words to scold her for the way she had dressed."

The point of such law is social order , public safety , etc..

Almost every Nation places the need of society for order above the individuals need for liberty. Where the line is drawn will always be as it has always been an eternal debate.

So where is the pale?

I don't like where this judge drew this line , the inequity is glaring , yet it is not for such small reasons that we interfere in a foreign nations soverentry .

The shame that this act draws tho should be enough motivator for Iriqui judges to start avoiding such extremeism.

Chavez has not been giving oil away to Americans. He has been selling more cheaply to Cuba and a few other countries.

The world price of oil is one thing, by the way, and the local price of gasioline is quite another. The latter is determined by Bush's buddies. The former is irrevevent to anyone who does not want to buy tons of oil and has their own refinery.

Watch and see, after the elections, the price will rise again.

You ought to pay attention to Hugo Cahvez , he is traveling about offering sweetheart deals to partys and factions he likes.

If you were going to the Tobqacco Auction as a buyer and saw someone outside the gate giveing bales away at steep discounts would you still go in and bid on bales at competitive prices? At the least haveing someone outside the auction giveing away the product will reduce the number of bidders that go in ,even if not all buyeres were welcome to be gifted.

Hugo Cheves is doing all he possibly could to drive down the world price of oil and the Harlem price of heat and everything in between will feel the depression of price. Castro is not haveing to bid , whoever he is dealing with ,giving a good deal, will be removed from the bidding.

What more could he do to depress the price of oil?  If there is a big spigot being turned on it is Hugo's.

According to your theroy he is doing this for his love of George Bush.

He who laughs last laughs best.

Nasrallha's victory was claimed long before the dust had settled , the passage of time has shown that the victory was largely symbolic while the losses were entirely concrete.

We don't know yet whether the passage of more time will reverse the value of all accomplishments again , but it can .

Best case I have ever seen for keeping the Electorial College.

If this guy is right , as soon as we loose it minoritys will miss it.

"The Dems are strong on national security unlike ..."

Under what terms do you mean ?
What Democratic President has improved Defense in recent times?
I think you would have to go back to Johnson.

What is the voteing record of the Democratic Congress re. defense.

Most importantly , what are the Democrats really telling us they would do?

If asked many in this world would indeed say "Yankee go Home" is what they want , but do not forget that most of these will also add " and take me with you !".
