Burning the Flag
« on: September 09, 2010, 04:01:47 PM »
Wonder why Obama doesn't call his radical counterparts and ask them to refrain from burning American flags? Or call the Iman in NYC and ask him to find a better location for his Islamic Mosque. Just wondering...

Tempers be a flaring.  BUT....its apparently inappropriate, even bigoted, arguably unamerican, to criticize and not support an Islamic mosque being built in the shadow of the WTC, or folks simply exercising their 1st amendment right to burn an American Flag, while we need to be in an uproar and condemn those that wish to exercise their 1st amendment right to burn a Koran?

When did we lose the notion of Freedom vs Judgement?

(for the record, it's a horrible idea to publically burn Korans.  It's nothing more than being instigative and insensitive, and very likely to lead to more violent reactions.  Ironically the same qualities the current Imam pushing the mosque has been demonstrating)

for years I have asked the left to be consistent but they are selective in everything from free speech to tolerance.

SIRS....it like the huge "outrage" over a few corporate bonus'
while the politicians that are outraged steal from Social Security
lose billions overseas in unaccounted funds
and want to print more money for bailouts to their friends and our enemies

It's all about POWER, Cu4.  The power to dictate to others how they will live their lives, based on that socialist minority that see themselves as smarter than the rest of us serf, and just simply know better.

That's just not limited to the left side of the spectrum.

Never said it was.  Merely that the left, specifically socialists, communists, and fascists, its all about power.  The use of "profit" as accusatory rhetoric, is used to deflect the lesser educated, attempting them to keep their focus on class warfare, while the "the left", as referenced above, have a cornerstone of seeking power

But cudos on trying to include that the push for "power" isn't just a liberal ideal

Of course it isn't . Just as the quest for money is not a right of the spectrum, exclusivity.

My little take on the matter.  If it is acceptable to burn bibles, flags, then why not Quarans?
With that said, common sense and a bit of intelligence would suggest that doing so puts you in the same league as those who do those horrible acts.  They are no better.
From an ethical point of view, burning someone's sacred book is wrong, just not illegal.

Burning Korans in Gainesville FL is legal. Burning a bonfire without a permit from the fire dept is not.

Besides the guy backed down.

Here's my angle --if the man were truly a Christian and transformed by Jesus Christ then burning the Koran would not be an option that he would even consider. The man is a phony preacher just like Jeremiah Wright. The 50 people that go to that church have more in common with Obama than ALL truly transformed Christians and the vast majority of Conservatives. Hate fills Jeremiah Wrights heart, the preachers heart, and of course Obama is a hateful person too, no question about it.
