Wait, they are making "Ghost in the Shell" with Caucasians in all the leading roles?

I don't think this is going to work.

Burt Kwouk is the guy that jumps out of the shadows onto Inspector Cleauseau setting off ridiculous fights.

I really liked the Pink Panther films.

Is this a spoof of the oriental sidekick meme?

I like "Angry Asian Girl".

I still do not understand why Chinese prefer to be known as "Asians".
There are hundreds of millions of people who are Asians that are not Chinese.
There are lots of people who look Chinese, but are not Chinese.

Is the word "Chinese" offensive to Chinese?

I was not aware chinese wanted to be called asians. that was definately brought up at the meetings. so far chinese is not offensive but then the word doesn`t really roll off the tongue with hitting a guy so that word should be safe for awhile.

I assumed that because Chinese refer to themselves as Asians, that was because they preferred it to "Chinese".

Language is not logical.

Englishman is not offensive,
Frenchman is not offensive,
Dutchman man is not offensive,
Scotsman is not offensive,
Irishman is not offensive.
It seems to be that there is a quirk in the language, because we never say Danishman, Polishman, Czechman, Russianman.

But "Chinaman"  is offensive.
China, of course is a fancy variety of crockery, but no one means to suggest that Chinese people are crockery. A  Dane would just laugh if he though that he was bing compared to pastry if he was called a Danish. Belgians would perhaps think calling one of their offspring a "Brussells Sprout" was just a bad joke. They would not be offended. They might even laugh.

I suspect that the translation of the word Chinese man and China man in Mandarin and perhaps other languages spoken in China are identical.
Hence, there is no way in Mandarin to distinguish between the two, so as to indicate that an offensive term (Chinaman) has been used.
But Asian would be a totally different word.

Of course, Turks, Persians, Afghans, 100 varieties of Indians, even Israelis and Lebanese are Asian.

So in this case, accuracy is less important than reality.

This is often the case with language. People are offended if you call them a "son of a bitch", but if you called then a 'dog', that is okay. They might like to be called a bulldog. Pit Bull named himself after breed of dog thought of as unpleasant.

I explained its a american asian offense it's the number one word heard when you hear when punched in the face. It's taught to asians to not like that word.  Nigger is the number one word hesrd when punched in the face.

English man
French. ""
Dutch "
Scots "
Irish "
I don't think these words wood rolloff the toungue in heat of violence. But also your right thst word is mainly used even today to mean inferior. Even chinese use that word for something substandard.

The insulting words for the Irish are "Mick" and "Paddy"  But Michael and Padraic are very common Irish names.
The British call the Scots "Jocks" or "Jocko" but I don't think that is insulting. I once spent a week in Punta Gorda, Belize, drinking with off duty British and Scottish soldiers.
The Scittish soldiers had more and uglier tattoes than anyone I have seen outside a Carnival.

I cannot think of an insult in English for the Dutch. Used to be there was a distinction made between the Pennsylvania Dutch, who were actually Germans, the word for German bring Deutsch. These were also known as the "dumb Dutch" because they did not know English and were therefore mute. The New York Dutch or Holland Dutch were from the Netherlands. about 2/3rds of the land area of the Netherlands is called Holland. French are known as "frogs" because of the way they speak Français comes out Fwrawnsay.
