Fantasy Questions for Obama

By Paul Sperry
FrontPageMagazine.com | 10/15/2008

With just a few weeks remaining in the campaign, Barack Obama remains an enigma. The media have left him largely unvetted. Tonight's debate offers one final chance to get to know him.

Will CBS News host Bob Schieffer finally ask the tough questions that have eluded previous moderators? Don't hold your breath.

While Schieffer may be more cantankerous than his colleagues, he's still a liberal who like the rest of the media elite probably see nothing wrong with Obama's radical ties. So why bother asking him about them? What's the news value in that? Don't we all agree with Tom Brokaw that Bill Ayers is merely a "school reformer"?

For what it's worth, here is my fantasy list of questions for Obama you won't hear in the debate:

1. You say unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers is just a guy from your old Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Have you or Michelle ever entertained either Bill Ayers or his (cop-assaulting) wife at your old condo there, or at your new home?

2. You say you were just 8 years old when Ayers bombed the U.S. Capitol. How old were you when you first learned he was the guy who did what he did when you were 8?

3. Did you have any help writing your "Dreams" memoir outside of your editor's input? Are all the words in that book your words?

4. Have you ever traveled abroad with Jeremiah Wright, and if so where? What about with Louis Farrakhan?

5. Did you or Michelle attend "Trumpet" magazine's gala tribute to Farrakhan at the Chicago Hyatt last year? Did you know at the time that he was being so honored?

6. Where were you on 9/11, and what was your immediate, visceral reaction to those attacks? You said in the 2004 preface to your reprinted "Dreams" memoir that "history returned that day with a vengeance," and that "the past is never dead and buried." What did you mean by those remarks?

7. Do you believe the Bush administration had specific, advance knowledge of the attacks? Do you believe it was involved in the attacks in any way?

8. Your resume lists you as "executive director" of Project Vote in 1992. Project Vote's parent company is located at the same New Orleans address as the radical group ACORN. Were your checks cut from there? Have you ever visited ACORN's New Orleans headquarters?

9. Your campaign says you were never "hired" to train ACORN leaders in agitation tactics. Did you ever train them on a voluntary basis?

10. What are some of your favorite films? Did you ever see Spike Lee's "X"? What are your favorite books? Have you ever read any of James H. Cone's works?

11. When you worked briefly right out of college for Business International Corp. in New York, you said you were "spying behind enemy lines." Are you saying corporate America is the enemy?

12. You cite in your 2006 autobiography as one example of racism that you've personally experienced, an incident at a restaurant in which a white couple "tossed" their keys at you thinking you were the valet. Can you recall the name of the restaurant where that occurred, and who you were with at the time? You also suggest this happened to you on more than one occasion. If so, where else?

13. As another example of racism, you say that police have pulled you over for no reason. Where and when did this occur? If no tickets were issued, did you file a harassment complaint?

14. Tell us about your relationship with Tony Rezko. Did you and Michelle ever socialize with him and his wife Rita?

15. When you visited Raila Odinga on a junket to Kenya in 2006, you called it a "fact-finding" mission. What did you glean for constituents in Illinois? And who paid for that portion of the trip?

16. Do you believe Hamas is a terrorist group?

17. In 1995, you said, "Reagan and his minions did dirty deeds." What were those "dirty deeds" you speak of, and what is your opinion of the late president today?

18. Your ex-pastor Wright believes "racism is how America is still run." Do you believe that's true today?

19. Bill Cosby says much of the problems in the black community are self-inflicted, that it's a cultural thing more than an economic one. Where do you agree with Cosby, if anywhere, and where do you part company?

20. When you were sitting at Frank Marshall Davis' knee, sharing his whiskey, did you have any knowledge of his communist sympathies? How did your grandfather describe him? And why did you fail to identify Davis by name in your book, when he'd already been dead for several years?

21. You were trained in the agitation tactics of Saul Alinsky at his Industrial Areas Foundation in Los Angeles, and taught those tactics -- specifically with respect to power analysis -- to your students in Chicago. And you received a letter of recommendation to Harvard from one of his top disciples, John McKnight. More recently, you hired veteran Alinsky trainers to teach your campaign volunteers at Camp Obama. Why then did you never mention Alinsky in your memoir detailing your experiences as a community agitator? And why don't you ever talk about Alinsky on the campaign trail?

22. Have you ever hired members of the Nation of Islam to work on your campaign or government staff in Illinois or Washington? Are any NOI member working for you now?

23. What was your transferring GPA at Oxy and your cummulative GPA at Columbia? Why won't you release your transcripts as have past presidential candidates, including John Kerry?

24. Your faith, Black Liberation Theology, holds that Jesus was African? Do you share this belief? Do you believe Africa is the Promised Land, or that blacks are the chosen people?

25. Did you or Michelle ever teach Bible class at Trinity United? Did you ever participate in the African Studies Program there? Have you ever taken a Bible class taught by Dwight Hopkins?

26. Have you ever met Hopkins or his mentor James Cone?

27. The church typically issues a packet to new members detailing its so-called Black Value System, and requires members to attend classes on it and pledge to uphold its tenets. Tell us about this program, and what you learned from it. Do you still believe in its tenets as you said you did in your first memoir? What about Michelle and your daughters? Do they subscribe
to this system?

28. Did you and Michelle socialize with Jeremiah and Ramah Wright? What was your relationship with them outside the church?

29. Tell us about your relationship with Louis Farrakhan. Have you ever met with him one-on-one?

30. Were you aware Farrakhan's sermons were offered for sale at Trinity?

31. Did you receive the Trinity magazine "Trumpet" or the church bulletin at your home or office?

32. When you weren't able to attend church service, did you listen to recordings of the sermons?

33. You say you've used hard drugs such as cocaine. Have you ever bought cocaine directly from a dealer? Have you ever smoked crack cocaine?

34. Have you ever been arrested?

Sigh, so many questions, so little time.

During the 1992 election, the mainstream media failed to properly vet William J. Clinton, another charming young liberal "change" candidate. History is repeating itself now with Barack H. Obama, though the consequences could be more severe.

I don't have enough time on my hands, but we really don't know McCain either and I'd like to ask him some questions too:

1.  After you were injured while dropping napalm on Viet Nam and getting shot out of the skies, and further injured by a mob of angry Vietnamese beating the living shit out of you for murdering babies, children, elderly people and hospital patients by burning them alive,  the Vietnamese government, for some inexplicable reason probably related to the basic human decency you so clearly lack, had you treated extensively in their best hospital for your injuries instead of putting you on trial for war crimes and executing your sorry criminal ass.  Surely in the course of your many hospital visits and other medical treatment, you must have had to inform your treating physicians about the terrible injuries inflicted upon you during your horrific "torture" by your guards.  Have you any objection to our reporters taking a look at your Vietnamese medical records, and would you like to sign a waiver of confidentiality in favour of our reporters so that they can view those records and photocopy them?

2.  The terrible "tortures" that you suffered at the hands of your Vietnamese guards must have left enduring marks on your body in one form or another; would you be willing to submit to a full medical examination, including diagnostic imaging, by a team of our doctors to see if there is any physical evidence at all of all this horrible "torture" that you suffered?

3.  Your former jailer in Viet Nam has been located and categorically denies that you were ever tortured.  Can you think of one good reason why this man, who is obviously immune from any kind of prosecution for his actions now, would lie about this?

4.  We understand that you made at least 32 videotapes for the Vietnamese for propaganda purposes during your captivity in order to procure special treatment for yourself; will you sign this request addressed to the Vietnamese government requesting the release of those tapes to U.S. media for broadcast purposes?

5.  Will you also sign this request to the Vietnamese government requesting the release of a distribution list showing which media received copies of the tapes and when they received them?

6.  Please list all the payments and benefits received by you from Charles Keating and his associates and family members and when you received them.  If the benefits were in the form of goods or services, such as prostitutes, call girls or hookers, please include location of the hotel, brothel or massage parlour in which you received the services and the length of time over which the girl provided the service.

7.  Why did you think that Charles Keating, his friends and family members were all being so nice to you?

8.  Was it your intention to repay Keating, his friends and family members for their largesse by doing favours for them, or did you intend to continue to suck up all of their lavish gifts and stiff them by giving nothing back in return?

9.  Did you visit your benefactor Charles Keating even once while he was in jail, or did you dump him like you dumped your first wife, the mother of your child, after she was injured and disfigured in an automobile accident?

Well, that's it for now.  If I got paid to write this stuff, like Sperry, I am sure there are dozens more questions I could write for John McCain, but that's all that I can manage.  Maybe MoveOn.org can open a web-site for questions for the old guy and we can make this a collective effort.  But there really should be some concerted effort to let the public see the real John McCain.

"...the Vietnamese government, for some inexplicable reason probably related to the basic human decency you so clearly lack, had you treated extensively in their best hospital for your injuries ...."

Extensive?

They failed to set two broken arms , they put him in a chest cast the day before he was filmed by a French News crew ,they never removed that cast it fell apart eventually. They gave him no treatment at all for the arm they broke in interrogation and if that was the best that could be done in their best hospital .... I certainly would not brag on it.

I don't see how he could prevent it , if they bothered to keep such a record , but why keep a record of such shoddy practice? I would bet a doughnut that there is no such thing, dating from that time anyhow. If you want to make one now I think Dan Rather can put you in touch with someone who can whip something up for you.

We can be certain that the Vietnameese are guilty as charged because McCain has been accuseing them of poor hospitality for years and they have never sued him for libel at all.

In 1999, McCain responded to the questions about his mental health by allowing selected reporters to peruse 1,500 pages of his health records dating back to his release from Hanoi in 1973. Reporters were not permitted to photocopy any of the documents. The reporters who looked at the records did not describe any mention of a PTSD diagnosis. However, they failed to note that it would have been impossible for McCain to receive such a diagnosis -- since the term "post-traumatic stress disorder" was not in use until seven years after McCain's release from captivity. The term first appeared in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1980.

During his presidential run eight years ago Mr McCain responded to a whispering campaign about his mental health by releasing psychiatric records showing that he had only an “overdeveloped super-ego”, not exceptional among those vying to be the most powerful man on Earth. Yesterday’s documents included no such assessment, but doctors made a point of saying that Mr McCain, known for his fiery temper, was a pleasant patient with a high tolerance for pain.

Hmmmm... I wonder how he is able to keep his Vietnameese records classified ?

How Obama can defeat McCain without attacking his POW record
[Report this comment] Posted by: NoMcCainPalin on Sep 21, 2008 7:07 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]

McCain's Achilles heel is his advanced age, not what happened in North Vietnam 40 years ago.

In article published in June 2008 by Military.com, former POW Phillip Butler, a Navy pilot and U.S. Naval Academy graduate who spent more than eight years in North Vietnam as a prisoner of war, explained why he would not support McCain for the presidency.

"Most of us who survived that experience [being a POW] are now in our late 60’s and 70’s. Sadly, we have died and are dying off at a greater rate than our non-POW contemporaries. We experienced injuries and malnutrition that are coming home to roost. So I believe John’s age (71) and survival expectation are not good for being elected to serve as our President for four or more years."

There are many Republicans who share Butler's concerns, as do the 30% of white Democrats who won't vote for Obama because he's black (according to a recent Yahoo poll). But no matter how well he argues his case, those people will NEVER support him. So Barack must get them to vote AGAINST McCain or not vote at all.

That goal can be accomplished with a simple slogan: "John McCain -- OLD Ideas, OLD Solutions."

Notice I never mentioned his age (72), but the message comes through loud and clear. And should the GOP complain about the inference, it will only bolster suspicions that McCain's best days are behind him.

If you agree with my assessment, tell your friends and family members while there's still time to defeat McCain -- a pandering politician who truly has old ideas, old solutions.

There is a certain number of people who will refuse to vote for any Black person. This is a larger number than the number of people who will admit this publicly, since being a racist is not socially acceptable. It is really impossible to know this number without exact figures. It will vary geographically as well as by age.

I don't know of any country on earth where a person's medical records are freely given to whoever asks.  McCain was treated in the best hospital in Viet Nam at the time, plane, and it's no secret that their health-care system was not on a par with the West.  However, any treating physician needs to know the nature of the injuries and something of how they were caused, and how long they have persisted, and how they were treated in the past, in order to treat the patient.  Patients have very little motivation to lie to their treating physicians, because they could get hurt if the doctor's treatment plan is based on false information.  It would be interesting to see what McCain told his Vietnamese doctors about his physical injuries, when they were sustained, how they were sustained, what if anything further aggravated them, etc.  I'm betting this information would be the death knell for the phony stories of "torture" that McCain has concocted and that so far have served him so well.

McCain lied or did not lie about being tortured a long time ago. I imagine that the Vietnamese interpretation of torture and McCain's are as likely to differ as Juniorbush's. I  don't see why this would be so much a factor. McCain has revealed that he is more interested in being elected than in engaging in straight talk or being principled.

He proposes a rather adequate immigration bill, but renounces it when hesees it will lose him votes among Hispanics.

He rejects Juniorbush's tax cuts for the superrich when he sees that the Party Oligarchs won't fund his campaign.

He takes on the totally unqualified Sarah Palin as his VP choice because he feels that this stunt will draw away Hillary supporters and get more money out of the Neanderthal base of the GOP.

He no longer talks straight. All his major proposals are to continue the practices of Juniorbush.

He's doomed, and deserves to be doomed.

Back to the Senate with John McCain, back to the tundra with Palin.

He has described his being tied and beaten in detail , published it and because the Vietnamese have not sued for Liabel we must assume it to be true.

The Vietnamese believe that your courts are corrupt and that they wouldn't get justice in them.

Besides, the former jailer likes and admires McCain because he steadfastly defended America in their private conversations.  He understands why McCain needs to claim now that he was tortured.  Otherwise how could he defend the broadcasts he made to secure better  treatment?  I sure hope that Obama's campaign brings out some of the 32 tapes of McCain broadcasts sometime before the end of the campaign.

<<Nope ,I have it on very good authority that failure to sue for liable is tantamount to confession.>>

The best authority possible, as it happens.  However, that authority was speaking of Americans suing Americans in American courts.

You took the words out of context and tried to apply them to Vietnamese jail guards suing former American prisoners in an American court.

Big mistake.  Wrong application.
