The announcer says that "maybe this is a film of the largest squid ever filmed".

That is pretty cool.

When, if ever, does a giant squid get classified as a "kraken"?

How does one capture a kraken?  Not that I want to do this.

If you can't capture one, then the phrase "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!" makes little sense.
Unless you leased one previously, at least.

Release the Quacken

What could anyone do with a Quacken but release it?

The phrase RELEASE THE QUACKEN and this photo together makes little sense to those who know no English.

Australians have a great sense of humor. At least the ones that thought this up.

“we feel that the longest scientifically verified giant squid is 12 [meters],” or 39 feet.

Oh , is that all?

I think a 39 foot long animal is rather impressive.  Squids lack bones and skeletons, so perhaps they just grow and grow until they cannot eat enough to support their bodies. Perhaps this is not quite as large as the largest CGI Kraken that might be designed for a film, but it is still a very large critter.

There is still a lot we don't really know about giant squid , like how fast they grow , how common they are or how old they get.

Smaller squid grow very rapidly and mature in one to two years , only a few last longer than maturity as mating kills them.

Sperm whales seem to eat giant squid regularly , so they can't be too rare, they just live where we seldom go.

It is exciting to learn more of these fabulous creatures , perhaps we will put a camera collar on one to record his daily life, but we might have to retrieve that camera from whale poop.
