It's an american football analogy.

Give up short yardage but don't give up the touchdown.

McCain wants his girlfiend Palin to do the attacking, obviously. What a wimp.

Guess that makes Obama a wimp too. That is why Biden was brought on board.

It is a tradition to get the VP to do the dirty work. Machiavelli recommends that a subordinate be used in this way i The Prince. If the trial balloon is a disaster, they can be thrown overboard.

I think that candidates overall in this day and age fear taking any sort of risk in a televised debate because there are so many chances to mess up"... a tight fisted scrutiny from all sides of the media.

Hey, from a SNL satire to feedback from center stage with the ladies of THE VIEW, or from CNN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS, and  PBS,  it's a wonder the candidates dare breathe outside the script box. To declare a winner in a debate such as these depends on which one of the venues of media you take a liken' to.

Why bother watching the debates....the only real good reason to watch a debate is to see how closely SNL comes giving rise to a laugh.
The media will debate the debate for days now.....and god forbid SNL gets another seat in the gig.

Can we really ever trust the media in general?

Apparently, you trust them to amuse you.

The debate is more useful than what one sees and hears in the media.
Brokaw did a good job tonight.

The reason one watches the debates is to negate the media filter.

Is Palin O's girlfiend as well?- What a slut she must be. I dont see Joe saying McCain is supported (not endorsed ) by the KKK

No, my point is that the debates do not help me become more informed as the candidates play it too safely, imo.

Why bother. I don't think it matters to most people as it used to. Televised debates in the 60's for example meant a hell of a lot more than they do today. Today, you can decide on a candidate by listening to YouTube before any cable debate will ever really sway one's vote. I don't get any amusemnet out of the debate aftermath. In fact, I think it's a shame that SNL has been seen more lately than at anytime in the past. Hmmm, funny goes just so far.

I miss Tim Russert.

He would have given us a touch of laughter in his own way, and a hell of a lot more substance with regard to reactions to the meat of the entire process of the debate.

Funny has taken over..and I am one person who loves to be amused...but, I am not amused at the satires take over Dalla mentality.

The politicians of today IMO, take on a debate with too much of a safety minded approach.

Perhaps you watch them for that reason...but the media after the fact is what I am referring to, BT.

Hmm. I thought you lib types were of the mindset that what goes on in the bedroom stays in the bedroom.

Or was that a sexist remark?, holding Palin to a different standard than Biden?

Oh and ast i heard the KKK has as much protected political speech as moveon.org does.

It's that pesky first amendment.
