Very fortunate and very tough Philidelpia policeman.

Very reprehensible , somewhat unlucky Jehadi attacker.

I can see it as very proper to thank God that this policeman survives .

I am not really certain that it is proper to thank God that this incident is shameful to Islam.

But I have to think about it.

Only shame could ever end Islam, so ,...

Do I want Islam to end , or improve to be less worthy of shame?

Did't you get the memo, Plane.  According to the newly elected idiot mayor, this ambush & assassination attempt had nothing to do with Jihad or Islam, regardless of what the actual assassin stated

There does not need to be a memo. This guy was just another crazy fool with a gun.
We used to have a way to lock people up and give them treatment for when the hear The Voices.
Now, we just let them wander about muttering until some of them find a gun.

Crazy people watch the news.

Shooting up a cop car would be just as illegal if he had shouted Jeezus is coming!
He was not a Muslim, he was just crazy. Why not mention Islam?  If you mention a dog you call Son of Sam people will make fun of you.

Yea, but he didn't.  Infact, when's the last time that ever happened?  You don't have to be born Muslim to practice being a Muslim.  And you sure don't have to be Muslim to act like a radical Jihadist.

So the gun used in this incident was stolen from a Philadelphia patrolman more than a year ago.

Was this gun being passed through the black market in the mean time? Or did it take this long for this guy to work up his nerve?

I think this was a well planned ambush, but it went quite differently than planned.

So what new gun law being proposed would have stopped this ambush again?

He was not a Muslim

"he traveled once to Saudi Arabia in 2011 for hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage,
and once to Egypt the following year, law enforcement officials said

So what new gun law being proposed would have stopped this ambush again?

If gun regulation has an effect on crime, it must be small.

But small effects might still be worthwhile if they are in the right direction and do not cost more than their positive effect.

But nuisance rules like the assault weapons ban have positive effect (if any) so small that it gets lost in the margin of error.

The presidents proposed rule changes this time would not really change the situation much, the most expensive part of it would be to triple the people keeping tabs on the FFL paperwork.

The holders of FFLs commit a handful of infractions annually , the people who fail background checks never get prosecuted for attempting to buy a gun, is there really a job for these guys?

Sometimes I feel that the whole point is the impression made , real effect is just beside the point.

Well, you kind of nailed it....in that Obama was all about "style" and precious little to do with substance.  It was meant to "look like he cared", even managed to produce a tear, though how sincere it was is still up for debate.  Point being, as you rightly deduced, the substance of what Obama said was nil, and much of it false, but one of the signs of great artistry was that the presentation overshadowed the substance.  As political theater, it put Donald Trump's rantings in the shade
