Fracking is the main reason for increased production in oil and gas fields , including fields that were no longer productive with older technology.

Hillary Clinton loves fracking and has spent considerable energy trying to persuade Eastern Europeans to frack their fields.  Which would spoil the Russian corner on that market.

So?

Does that make it safe everywhere it is done?

The safety of fracking I am not sure about.

Perhaps there are new ways for it to go wrong, but as far as I know the dangers of ordinary drilling are about the same as fracking .

Fracking involves breaking up subsoil rock, and then gas and oil can seep into the water table, so it is not the same danger. Fracking is more dangerous. There have been earthquakes in Oklahoma due to fracking.

Oil drilling has used explosives to break up subsoil rock for more than a century , this has caused polluting accidents now and then for this same period.

Hydraulic fracturing is the latest thing , but is just a development on older technology, done right it is not especially dangerous and can be less polluting than drilling new wells.

Earthquake danger ought to be studied as an important possibility , there might be some places that are prone to earthquake or possibly triggered by fracking , but this has happened with water drilling too,

The more fracking there is, the more problems will occur. It is utterly unconscionable to allow frackers to refuse to reveal what sort of crap is in their fracking fluid, that could be in the drinking water or irrigation water in dangerous quantities.

I am not entirely against fracking, but it should not be done in populated areas, and the cost of pollution should be paid for and then some if it occurs.

Yes , this is easy to agree with, not too hard to do either, if insurance is bought.
