I did not realize that we wanted Homeland Security to run healthcare.

Didn't realize that the State Dept. (the people who revoked her visa) was part of Homeland Security.

And I said the "bureaucracy," as in the Federal Government, not one particular department.

My fault on the State Department...but the point is still the same.

I know what you meant, but the statement is of little merit.

On the contrary; having worked with many civil servants, I can tell you that most (if not all) of the departments have many of the same types in them. So, if you setup a new "health care department" you'll end up with the same types of "bureaucratic snafus."

Really?

Tell me more about the "same types in them" if you don't mind.

The ones who spend entire days playing solitaire on their computers. Heck, the ones who show up for work, put their heads down on their desks, and sleep all day.

Saw plenty of those. How about the ones who schedule 4 hour meetings to discuss the scheduling of meetings?

Even had a civil servant say to me one time "civil servants put out RFPs and hire contractors to do the actual work."

1. This does not happen in the private sector?

2. All civil servants are pretty much useless?

Last time I checked, in the private sector you can go to another company. Haven't heard of a competing "federal government service provider" yet. Can I get a different IRS? How's about a different FBI?

2. All civil servants are pretty much useless?

Not all of them, but many. WAY more than in the private sector, mostly because it's damn nigh impossible to fire them once they've hit their 3 year mark. About the only way to get rid of them is for them to commit a crime, then lie about it when caught. Committing a crime and coming clean about it won't lose them their job (well, depending on the crime...)

Wow.

Based on a few anecdotal examples. That's impressive.

More than a few. It's also based on discussions with other contractors and civil servants in a variety of different departments.

The work my team did required contacts in disparate areas. Also, I spent years living and working around DC, with all the contact with federal employees that would entail.

Nope. Federal contractor with security clearance. Worked with classified data, the military, the space program, and the global change project.

I find funny is the hypocrisy
my supervisor give this no nonesense image and is passing out stricter policies ,trying to crackdown on lazy guards.
them this weekend I found out he`s responsible for the hire of some of the laziest and inept guards around.
they steal food from the kitchen and a ton of other violations.
I was curious why he never messed with me
compared to the others I`m a star.
helps that I accidentally got his boss fired.

As I thought.

Why? Would a civil servant see things differently?
