Don't , just don't think about it if you are about to have a meal.

I do think that abortion is one of the things that devalues humans worth to humans.
It is so bad that it is difficult to discuss civilly or calmly or rationally.

I think fetus smoothies are a silly thing to discuss.

It is also tragic.

No, it is not tragic. Look up the word "tragic".

No one makes fetus shakes. This is just stupid.
If people DID make fetus shakes, that would not fit the definition of "tragis", either.

Google says....
Quote
.
trag·ic      /?trajik/    adjective
adjective: tragic

1. causing or characterized by extreme distress or sorrow.
"the shooting was a tragic accident"

synonyms: disastrous, calamitous, catastrophic, cataclysmic, devastating, terrible, dreadful, awful, appalling, dismal, horrendous;

    Seems to fit for me.
Your disagreement is near the center of the issue, I think a person is destroyed in an abortion, and this is no less tragic for there being little complaint from the persons destroyed.

The opposite is to define "person" narrowly enough that what is destroyed is not a person , and an abortion is therefore no more tragic than an appendectomy.

This is a very tragic circumstance as far as I can tell , and it coarsens and toughens the sensibilities of us all.  This is a circumstance that causes a general devaluation of personhood across the board.

The cartoon is referring to making smoothies, not abortions. A tragedy is a bad thing that happens to someone because of an action he or she makes due to a flaw in his or her character.  A fetus makes no actions of any sort.

Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: Plane on March 27, 2014, 01:37:19 AM
Why is your definition more narrow than Googles?

Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: Xavier_Onassis on March 27, 2014, 06:46:03 AM
The term 'tragedy' comes from the Greek, and has been misused to mean 'disastrous'  for so long that Google (which is NOT regarded by anyone as the last word on lexicology ) has included this as a definition.

A tragedy teaches us something about ourselves; a disaster only tells us to run away or confront.

And so far, even your own tweaked definition of tragedy, continues to reinforce Plane's point

Only in your twisted mind, sirs; only in your sad, twisted mind.

You have never, in all recorded history, been anything other than a prick, sirs.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon

I think that what a word is generally understood to mean , or what any two users between them can agree to understand it to mean , is exactly what it means.

The natural evolution of language expands some words and shrinks others, sounds change, usage changes and pidgins and creoles form.

I am fascinated by the subject , tho I am totally amateur , ...

... I think in any case , you understood what I meant to say , even if there might have been a better word to choose.

You have never, in all recorded history, been anything other than a prick, sirs.

We'll just chalk that up the aforementioned record of wrongness.  But your opinion on the matter, is duly noted

The Bible claims that Man was created in God's image.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

Women are godlike by the definition given.

The woman can giveth life, and can also taketh away.

Again, if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a SACRAMENT. For sure, I am not kidding.
You clowns hate women and do not think that they should even have control over their own bodies.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon

If Men got pregnant , they would be Women.

Men who get pregnant are Women, yet there is no sacred abortion of life.

Unless you mean the presently unpopular practice of human sacrifice, and I do not blame women specifically for that.

There is no touché.

There are several species of fish in which the young develop inside the male, by the way. And there is that movie in which Arnold Schwartzenegger has a baby, despite being a Republican't.

Yes Sea Horses and Sea Dragons, if men were getting pregnant this way we would be fish.

There arte also several sorts of fish that keep their infant fry in their mouths until they are big enough to fend for themselves , this would be a great idea for us too if our mouths were big enough to conceal a teenager.

Or we might should try to emulate the Hydra which can live forever and reproduce by budding a clone.

Or we could talk about human beings as they really are , woce we have discussed everything else.

Again, a woman should have the right to decide whether to reproduce without the intrusion of sirs, Plane, Henry Fucking Hyde or Congress.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: sirs on March 30, 2014, 02:14:09 PM
AND AGAIN..no one is saying a woman can't chose to reproduce or not reproduce.  If they chose to not to want to reproduce, there's a plethora of means of doing so, WITHOUT KILLING THE UNBORN CHILD

Enough with the deflective xo-riddled straw-man attempts
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon

There is no fucking thing as an unborn child.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: Plane on March 30, 2014, 02:43:39 PM
There is no fucking thing as an unborn child.

It is hard to defend this attitude.

Is this person disqualified from personhood by a semantic technicality?

Do you accept the idea that there is no such person as a Palestinian?

It is much the same sort of thin argument.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: Xavier_Onassis on March 30, 2014, 07:34:39 PM
There is of course such a thing as a Palestinian.

fetuses are still not babies. Cut the crap!
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: Plane on March 30, 2014, 09:17:40 PM
There are not a few who say that the whole idea of "Palestine" or" Palestinian "is a recent made up concept.

It is a game of words, admitting to the existence of a real Palestine is politically important , so ridiculous arguments are entertained on both sides to prove and disprove it .

Calling someone a non-person one way or another is license to dispossesses or mistreat them as you couldn't a person.

The reason to call a Fetus a non-person is political, not real.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: sirs on March 31, 2014, 01:12:39 AM
There is no fucking thing as an unborn child.

Courts across the land disagree with your ever so wrong, opinion.  It's actually simple language, that one would think a language professor of all things, could grasp.  It's referred to as a child not yet born....ergo, unborn child

Now, back to the point made, minus the deflection effort, no one is saying a woman can't chose to reproduce or not reproduce.  If they chose to not to want to reproduce, there's a plethora of means of doing so, WITHOUT KILLING AN UNBORN CHILD

The reason to call a Fetus a non-person is political, not real.

BINGO
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon

This is a political issue.  What is moral or immoral is also a political issue.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: sirs on March 31, 2014, 12:18:03 PM
Which is why those who whole-heartedly support the killing of an unborn child will go far out of their way to try and dehumanize him or her using technical jargon, like fetus, which IS merely the term for an unborn child, or try to make it about "choice",  by building erroneous strawmen, that those that don't support the killing of an unborn child are trying to prevent a woman from doing anything she wants.  News flash, she CAN DO ANYTHING SHE WANTS.....up until if effects the life of another
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon

There is only one life until the fetus is born.

Women should not be forced to raise a child if they do not desire to do so.

If the anti abortionists wanted to be useful, they would offer free birthing and adoption services.

I notice that they don't. So screw 'em.

Magic is magic. You can assign to it any moment you choose.

I choose to allow women to make up their own minds.
Title: Re: Gross Cartoon
Post by: Plane on April 01, 2014, 12:11:34 AM
Then I would choose the earliest moment that a complete being existed.

Anything else is hoping without evidence for an unprovable negative to be true.

If err is possible would you not rather the err be on the conservative side?

If it is really arbitrary to assign personhood , then what keeps our rights from disappearing as soon as at an arbitrary point we are too old to deserve them?

There is only one life until the fetus is born.

As has been educated to you many times before, courts across the country have made it abundantly clear that 2 LIVES are in play, when a pregnant woman is involved.  But your continued efforts to try and dehumanize the unborn girl or boy, is duly noted

Women should not be forced to raise a child if they do not desire to do so.

And no one is advocating that they be forced to.......gravy, this endless strawman effort of yours gets nauseating

Title: Re: Gross Cartoon

You are nauseating. Your misogynistic attitude is indefensible.

The spelling nazi strikes again.  Looking forward to everytime you demonstrate your apparent inability to spell or punctuate properly......because then "obviously" it demonstrates how stupid you've apparently made yourself out to be, with these parameters you appear to apply to me & C, while Plane gets a full pass.  I summize its an issue inheirent to yourself

And by all means, continue to argue points never made.
