Oooops! Let's be fair to Singlaub, and even McCain.
From the Wikipedia article on General John Singlaub
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_K._Singlaub<<Singlaub was founder in 1981 of the U.S. Council for World Freedom, the US chapter of the World Anti-Communist League (WACL). The chapter became involved with the Iran-Contra affair,[2] with Associated Press reporting that, "Singlaub's private group became the public cover for the White House operation". [3] The WACL was described by former member Geoffrey Stewart-Smith as "largely a collection of Nazis, Fascists, anti-Semites, sellers of forgeries, vicious racialists, and corrupt self-seekers." [4]
He is credited with purging the organization of these types and making it respectable.[5]>>
Well, if Singlaub really did purge the Nazis, antisemites and racists (and I certainly don't trust the Wikipedia article as to that) then it's going to be difficult to accuse McCain, who he brought into the organization, of being in bed with them.
<<U.S. Army General William Westmoreland described Singlaub as a "true military professional" and "a man of honest, patriotic conviction and courage."[citation needed] >>
So a piece of shit war criminal gives Singlaub his props. Powerful circumstantial evidence in itself as to what kind of human being Singlaub himself must be.
<<Congressman Henry J. Hyde, (Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence Committees), described Singlaub as "a brave man, a thorough patriot, and a keen observer" - someone who had been "in the centre of almost every controversial military action since World War II.">>
Hyde, you recall of course as the lying fucking hypocrite mercilessly in pursuit of Bill Clinton for his famous Lewinski BJ, till it was published that he too was a liar and an adulterer. An affair which he tried to pass off as "a youthful indiscretion," though it turned out this had happened when he was over 40 years old.
<<In 1977, while Singlaub was chief of staff of U.S. forces in South Korea, he publicly criticized President Jimmy Carter's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the Korean peninsula. On March 21, 1977, Carter relieved him of duty for overstepping his bounds and failing to respect the President's authority as Commander-in-Chief.".[6][7]>>
An insubordinate officer given to criticizing his C-in-C in public and fired for it. Not exactly what I'd call a friend of democracy or even of the rule of law. Definitely a dangerous man and one to keep an eye on at all times.
So even if further investigation doesn't back up the "in bed with the Nazis" argument, it is already established that McCain was in bed with Central American death squads.
