Hugo Chavez was pretty dim in the economic and political department , but he had a lot of appeal and popularity at home.
His death is not going to end his popularity , it will mostly give everyone a chance to forget his mistakes.

Chavez will become a martyr and a hero.
Venezuela's biggest problem is not the political system, i8t is an overdependence on oil in a country with some of the best farmland on the planet. Parts of the llanura can grow nearly anything, and turn three crops a year. There is fertile soil, plenty of rain and lots of sunshine. Most of this land is misused for pasture to raise meat for McBurgers, mostly those humpbacked zebu things.
It is easy to get country people to come to the city. I can't think of any country, regardless of the ideology, that has ever managed to get city people out to the country to be farmers. Only Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge even tried.
There needs to be roads, potable water, medical care, electricity and schools in the country, and farmers need to be trained about modern agriculture. Chavez had such a plan, but it was poorly funded.
What he did do was use oil to buy the services of Cuban doctors to serve the poor, most of whom had never seen a doctor. He also provided schools, and other social services, which no Venezuelan government had ever done much of. All we hear about him here is stupid propaganda, because Chavez liked to thumb his nose at the US.
Rafael Correa has done a much better job in Ecuador, but Ecuador is not so plagued with huge slums in the cities. Ecuadoreans are also more placid people, much less emotional than Venezuelans. Correa is the only president in the history of Ecuador to complete a full term in office, and he recently was reelected with 56% of the vote, also rare in Ecuador. Usually there has to be two elections to choose a president.
The problem is how to get the people out of the cities, especially Caracas

Hugo Chavez was elected in free and fair elections by Venezuelans.

Yes....Hugo won the election, but by a much smaller percentage this time around.
There is a large opposition that can't stang Hugo the Billionaire!
The opposition are more favorable to a free market economy, to democratic rule....and to the US.
There is growing frustration among Venezuelans at day-to-day problems such as economic woes, rampant crime, and blackouts.

Unfortunately Hugo Chavez was in the habit of pronouncing insult, that is a bad habit and is contagious.
Venezuela will continue and is very likely to build a statue of the revered leader , his reputation will grow and his following will remain in power for years yet.
I don't think highly of him , but it is useless to insult him now.
I really think that the economy of Venezuela is in danger and therefore so is the economy of Cuba which is dependant.
The economic crash (if it happens) might be blamed on the untimely death of Hugo Chavez, but I think the truth is the danger stems from the poorly thought out economic program of Hugo Chavez, and his death is just in time to spare him the greif.
In spite of my attitude , I don't feel like celebrating.

Venezuelans are the only ones that should judge what is best for Venezuela.
It makes no sense to claim that some oaf at Fox who does not even know Spanish and does not have Venezuelan acquaintances on both sides of the issue should be taken seriously, just as a Venezuelan with no knowledge of English and no relationship to Americans of differing opinions has any right to be taken seriously as a valid authority of the US.
Chavez had his pluses and minuses,and much of what his critics say against him are simply stupid lies.
