Seems to me that after a near miss like this the asteroid would change its orbit signifigantly.

Put the cursor on the drag bar on the right side of the picture ,with that you can change the plane of the eliptic view.
Today a rock passed by pretty close , I wonder if it lost velosity or changed vector enough to be unpredictable next go around.

They should be able to calculate the new vector.

Yes but not before the close approach occurs .
This is an example of Chaos , tiny diffrences are multiplied so much by time and subsequent events that it isn't possible to account for the effects in small enough detail.
