I like this guy!!! How could his story have escaped me? I need books on this guy! I recall some time ago someone mentioning the British used threats of execution and being sent home in pigskin as a means to effectively end terroristic activities.

Once in U.S.  history an episode of Islamic terrorism was very quickly stopped.  It happened in the Philippines about 1911, when Gen.  John J. Pershing was in command of the garrison.  There had been numerous Islamic terrorist attacks, so "Black Jack" told his boys to catch the perps and teach them a lesson.
Forced to dig their own graves, the terrorists were all tied to posts, execution style.  The U.S.  soldiers then brought in pigs and slaughtered them, rubbing their bullets in the blood and fat.  Thus, the terrorists were terrorized; they saw that they would be contaminated with hogs' blood.  This would mean that they could not enter Heaven, even if they died as terrorist martyrs.
All but one was shot, their bodies dumped into the grave, and the hog guts dumped atop the bodies.  The lone survivor was allowed to escape back to the terrorist camp and tell his brethren what happened to the others.  This brought a stop to terrorism in the Philippines for the next 50 years.
Pointing a gun into the face of Islamic terrorists won't make them flinch.
They welcome the chance to die for Allah.  Like Gen.  Pershing, we must show them that they won't get to Muslim heaven (which they believe has an endless supply of virgins) but instead will die with the hated pigs of the devil.

One important thing to remember is that Muslims detest pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. Some of them simply refuse to eat it, while others won't even touch pigs at all, nor any of their by-products. To them, eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise and doomed to hell.
Just before World War I, there were a number of terrorist attacks against the United States and it's interests by, you guessed it, Muslim extremists.
So General Pershing captured 50 of the terrorists and had them tied to posts execution style. He then had his men bring in two pigs and slaughter them in front of the, now horrified, terrorists.
The soldiers then soaked their bullets in pigs blood, and proceeded to execute 49 of the terrorists by firing squad.
The soldiers then dug a big hole, dumped in the terrorist's bodies and covered them in pig blood, entrails, etc.
They let the 50th man go. And for about the next 42 years, there was not a single attack by a muslim fanatic anywhere in the world.

Imagine the audacity of those Filipino Moslems not to recognize why the US, as the rightful colonial successor to the Spanish, should run the Phillipines rather than those totally unqualified Filipinos.

What we need now are clearly colonialist thugs who know how to murder and debase uppity inferior colonials as they deserve!

Well .........Snopes calls it poorly documented and undetermined as to truth.

I call it out of caricter for Pershing , so I don't think it is true.


I am certain tho that as a tecnique for deterance , this wuold not work at all in the present.

I think the only way to survive against one's threats is to hit others where it hurts.

You can go for thier jugular, but it is far more effective to wage psychological warfare. I think not only sending them hom in pigskin but pigskin that was created? by a prostitute and doused in alcohol would eb an excellent means of deterring violence.

I doubt that it would be all that intimidateing to a Muslim to threaten to desicrate his corpse , they may indeed be savage , but this is not equivelent to ignorant .

The backlash might indeed be the offense felt by Muslims who are not savages .

We can adjust an irrational outlook? You can't reason with someone highly & emotionally unreasonable.

Why is the United States dominating the Phillipines any sort of worthy pursuit?

The purpose of the Spanish-American War, which resulted in the US removing Spain from the Phillipines, was supposedly because the Spanish were cruel colonial masters. How could they have been more cruel than this legend of Pershing, which may or may not be true?

I doubt that you have much admiration for Jeffrey Dahmer, even though all his victims were "fags".

It's far less the Spanish-American war; it is how he handled threats, terrorism, etc.

The uniform does not make this a noble act. That is not my point. In fact, the act is *not* noble. But Pershing realized what so many fail to realize-that you can not reason with someone so emotional and irrrational. Nobility is not always an option. When reason fails to stop violence, you do whatever means are necessary to protect yourself, your loved ones, your country, etc.

Remove the "native people" part. WHEN EXTREMES ARE NECESSARY, please by all means, as someone relying on the military in large part for her protection-do whatever it takes. I do not advocate Guantanamo-I do not advocate Abu Ghraib-in large part because innocents may be involved. But simply the threat-and a few examples will have to be made, unfortunately-of not being recieved by Allah or however you wish to phrase it, will curtail a majority of the violence.
