Per the astutely sharp conservative, Charles Krauthammer:

I'm not sure he's going to give a speech about ideas or programs. In fact, if the inaugural address was sort of this extraordinarily ideological address, I think the State of the Union is going to be extremely aggressive and partisan. Obama is still campaigning, he hasn't stopped. Part one was to re-win the presidency, which he did. But now he is continuing his idea, his political objective now to is reduce, to fracture, to marginalize the Republicans in the House, who were the ones that stopped the agenda in years three and four of his presidency, and who he has to marginalize if he wants to enact his agenda in the second term.

So, I think he is going to be out there. He is really going to hammer Republicans on the sequester, that is the automatic spending cuts which Republicans in the House have announced they are going to allow it to be enacted unless Obama offers ultimate cuts. Obama wants a hike in taxes.

He's going to be, I predict, tomorrow night extremely aggressive against the Republicans on this. And he will then go through the litany of all the horrible stuff that is going to happen if the sequester happens. You know, all the food stamps taken out of the mouth of babies because the Republicans are protecting the oil companies, the corporate jet owners and the rich, et cetera, the usual suspects. I bet you, it's going to be at the heart of the speech, it's all to be able to beat back the Republicans so he can control Washington.

NBC Journalists Agree: Obama 'Clearly Has the Upper Hand On the Budget'

On Sunday's Meet the Press, moderator David Gregory seized on an item in Politico arguing that upcoming sequester budget cuts could prove to be a "time bomb" for Republicans: "And the political pressure that's being brought to bear....'If sequestration happens now, House Democrats say they'll have tangible proof that the GOP is a dysfunctional party that can't even tie its own shoelaces'....Is that where the pressure is?"

Gregory posed that question to investigative correspondent Michael Isikoff, who replied: "I think the President clearly has the upper hand on the budget. Look, he won the election....Revenues being a part of the equation for cutting the budget, the President won on that....on that particular issue, he's got the upper hand. And it makes sense for him politically to hammer it – hammer it strongly."

Not sure what the problem is. Biden on behalf of the administration worked out the deal with Mitch McConnell in the Senate. The house used the same bill when they passed it and sent it back to the Senate and then on to the President for signatures.

It's a White House Budget Control Act. Both houses and both parties had ample opportunity to stop sequestration from kicking in.

If that is the best they can do then let the legislation be enforced.

Indeed....Sequestration WAS part of the WH plan, yet what reporter is questioning any Democrat politician on that, as Obama & the left keep hammering the GOP as inferring that they're behind the sequestration cliff

What do you know, Krauthammer was wrong, the speech did not particularly hammer Republicans.

Wasn't much change and I didn't see much sign that the President understands his own words , but at least he was not entirely unfriendly.

Unemployment still stands at 7.9 percent, actually higher than when he took office in 2009.

It's time for the State of the Union address, which means the president is pivoting back to jobs once more. It's an annual game where President Obama pretends to be focused on employment and many in the media pretend to believe him.

Back in 2009, the president promised never to "rest" until the job situation was fixed. Nearly four years later, he's done a lot of resting.

According to The Weekly Standard, Pres. Obama has had 83 vacation days overall and Factcheck.org says he took 26 of those in 2009. That means the president has taken at least 57 vacation days since his vow not to "rest."

On Sept. 15, 2009, Obama spoke to General Motors plant employees in Warren, Ohio, about the "economic crisis." That's when the president made his promise. "But I want you all to know, I will not rest until anybody who's looking for a job can find one -- and I'm not talking about just any job, but good jobs that give every American decent wages and decent benefits and a fair shot at the American Dream," he told an applauding crowd. Obama has made the same promise (either as "I" or "we") since then, but that was the first evidence of his promise.

Dictionary.com gives several definitions for "rest." and one of the more generous of those is "a period or interval of inactivity, repose, solitude, or tranquility." By most definitions, that would include vacation.

But 1,245 days later, including at least 57 days off, millions of Americans are still out of work with unemployment at 7.9 percent, 0.1 percent higher than when he took office.

Now, the White House is deflecting criticism by saying jobs have always mattered. According to the Feb. 11 USA Today, "He will not be 'pivoting' back to the topic, [aides] add." The paper then cited spokesman Jay Carney and told readers "Obama has made jobs and the economy his primary emphasis since he began seeking the presidency in 2007."

Marco Rubio will have to try a LOT harder to become the Great Hispanic Hope. His rebuttal was weak, his delivery could have been  a lot  better. I have heard Hispanic politicians who really know how to get to an audience,and poor Marco sounded like a B+ in Speech 101 at Florida International.

Rafael Correa he ain't.

He's no Barack Obama either.The Pres. gave a great speech.
