Post by: Christians4LessGvt on September 17, 2008, 04:18:42 PM
today the russian stock market halted trading for 2nd straight day

i heard they would be punished for invading democratic georgia

is the US causing the russian meltdown?

(yes I know about the US banking troubles, i am not asking about that)

I don't think there is any connection between the Russian stock market and Georgia.

Georgia may be democratic, but their leadership is sure stupid. Invading Ossetia and expecting the Russians to just lie down and take it was a major bit of lunacy.

No way the US can or should bail Georgia out, or vote to put them in NATO.

No, you got it all wrong.  The Russians were really pissed off that you tried to arm the Georgian army, and THEY have caused YOUR economic meltdown.

Russia's major export plummets from $140 a barrel to $90, and that would have a LOT more to do with Russia's market than some problem with a piddly little place like Georgia.
