I do appreciate the honesty in the professor's intent not to vote for a Presidential candidate Scott Walker, due specifically in that he's a Republican. Let me however try to quickly address the multiple tangents that sprang from that last post....
- "What Government
should be", is precisely what's outlined in the Constitution....no more, no less. The fed has specific functions, while the States are clear to take care of the rest, as they see fit...so long as its not unconstitutional. For the professor and Dems that don't like that, the Constitution even has the built in provision of being able to be amended....to appease the issues that the professor believes
Government should be- The PEOPLE, not Walker, not even Republicans, put a stop to an out of control public sector union that was bankrupting Wisconsin, and is in the process of bankrupting so many more municipalities. Again, the professor's issue isn't with Republicans, as much as its with Democracy. Damn people not smart enough to know what's good for them
- "Useless" wars, that many a Dem supported, and many a Dem still support. Useless in the professor's opinion perhaps, but supported by a bipartisan predominance. Obama himself indicated that he too would have gone to war, when he was 1st campaigning, just that he would have gone mostly into Afghanistan vs Iraq. So, once again, its not a Republican issue, as it is an issue in dealing with the circumstances of current foreign policy reality
- I do have to laugh at "refusing to pass laws". What the professor meant to say was,
refusing to pass laws that Democrats wanted/demanded. Xo seem to conveniently forget that the GOP passed bill after bill after bill after bill after bill after bill after bill......etc., that sat on Senator Reid's desk, gathering dust & cobwebs, never even being allowed to be voted on, denying even the chance for a laws to be passed. The Professor's issue isn't with Republicans, its with Reid and the Demawon'ts, as it relates to laws not getting passed
- The recession was caused PRIMARILY by the lack of oversight to Fannie & Freddie, and the policies pushed by BOTH parties, that then pushed lending institutions into approving thousands upon thousands of home loans, that would have otherwise not been approved. It had squat to do with not enough regulation.
