It would be extremely foolish for this country to get involved by sending arms or other support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
There is no way that Ukraine could possibly defeat Russia. It is not in our sphere of influence and never has been.

Ukraine since independence has been run very, very poorly.  They have swung back and forth between pro-Western and pro-Russian governments, and all their governments up to Porochenko have been intensely corrupt. All Ukrainians speak Russian and most of those who consider themselves to be Russian in Ukraine speak Ukraine. It is a cultural gao about as narrow as between the people of Montana and Alberta.

Most of the people in Crimea were neither Russian nor Ukrainian, and seem to be as comfortable with one as the other. Historically, Crimean was Russian until Khruschev, a Ukrainian, awarded it to Ukraine in the 1960's. I do not think any Americans should risk their lives over Crimea or Donetsk or the Eastern Ukraine.

President Obama has avoided any major involvement in this, and I hope he continues to do so.
This is not our fight. The Europeans have taken over the negotiations, and that is how it should be.

And no, Ukraine does NOT belong in NATO. That would be really dumb.
