Although our current Community Organizer & Chief is far more moral, Clinton was a far better politician....at least as it relates to governing the country, and trying to bring folks together. In 1994, Clinton suffered a similar defeat, as did Obama 2 weeks ago, following the Democrats getting thumped. Over the objections of many in his party, he dropped his pursuit of Hillarycare and signed the welfare reform act of 1996, having vetoed it twice before. Over the objections of many in his base, Clinton supported a cut in capital gain taxes and, despite union resistance, signed the NAFTA and GATT free-trade agreements
Clinton, in moving to the center, knowingly crossed his base, but grasped what the voters had just told him. During President Obama’s six years in office, there’s been no White House economic policy or legislative goal with which his base disagreed. Not one. And now, the imminent threat of superceding his own declared limited authority to placate a small portion of his base, & giving the political middle finger to the country, that just told him, all those policies that were on the ballot, as he declared, including immigration, were resoundingly voted down
He's definately in front of Carter as perhaps the worst president in our modern history. Clearly the most partisan & least transparent. But then again, how else can you fool the stupid voters? By Executive order, apparently
