North Korea's prison camps
The gulag behind the goose-steps

Stunning. The communist leaderships of Stalin's USSR, North Korea, even Castro's Cuba, make radical Muslims look like boy scouts.

North Korea is not Communist nearly as much as it is a perverted form of mandatory Confuscionism.
Koreans tend to be extreme in their practices: the food is too hot, the distinctions of family relationships are too complex, social relationships are too rigid.
South Korea has the advantage that people have mobility and freedom of expression. In the North there is none of that.
