Title: Just when you thought the MSM couldn't sink much lower
Post by: sirs on January 30, 2013, 10:26:44 PM
...in particular, MSNBHeeHaw

You get this report from this "news agency" (http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/01/29/emotional-father-of-sandy-hook-victim-heckled-by-gun-nuts/), and you say, "wow....that's pretty insensitive towards this father who just lost a child to murder" (and of course, you're supposed to think how vile 2nd amendment supporters are then supposed to be)

ahhhhhhhhm but then you get the unedited version (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/danieldoherty/2013/01/29/media-bias-exposed-msnbc-doctors-video-to-push-leftwing-agenda-n1500658).

And one wonders why so many more, and those numbers are growing, don't trust the MSM, and actually consder the internet a more credible source of news

And no surprise here...not a hint of criticism from our neighborhood Bill of Rights bashers.  Ends justify the means, when it comes to the hard core left's MO     :o

I don't watch MSNBC or Fox. Neither is actually a news provider, as both are in the entertainment business.

It is monumentally STOOPID to lump all the many media outlets (except Murdock's, of course) together, call them all "the MSM" and purport that they are all identical and wrong in the same way.

You don't have to watch either.  The links were provided for anyone that wished to objectively opine.  And no, they are both primarily NEWS networks      ::)

creative editing to target a political goal , how do they get credibility back

They don't...not when their younger sibling is completely pathologic, at this point

=========================================
They are INFOTAINMENT networks. I lived in Mexico for three years and know what phony news is. I don't watch Fox and I don't watch MSNBC because I don't need to waste my time with their opinionated crap.

Even CNN is a waste of time: the same lame stories repeated ad nauseum, studded with about 50% brainless commercials.

And one more time, you are not required to watch either.  In fact, your claims of how horrible Fox supposedly is runs moot, since per your claims, you don't watch them.  Now, back to the point, its amazing how the news wings of NBC can blatantly edit video to paint an image, they want to portray, and nary a hint of any criticism for their actions...........because of course, ends justify the means

I have watched Fox and MSNBC enough to knew what they are about. I find the commercials annoying and mostly watch PBS, the Sunday Morning Gasbags and occasionally Al Jazeera for Middle East news.

Most of the commercial networks are like AM radio. More ads than anything useful.

Ahh, so you lied when you said you don't watch them.  Here's a hint, despite what you may opine that they are, the news wings of those companies, are still desginated as NEWS.  Not informercials, not entertainment, but NEWS.  NEWS is SUPPOSED to be the objective reporting of ......whatever.  Editiorializing is the spinning the news/facts in a particular direction.  Propogandizing is the repetative distorting of the news/facts to paint a specific picture.

When a NEWS agency willfully edits a video, which is then reinforced by the reporter's talking points at the end of the video, you have nothing more than a propoganda machine, which has lost all credibility.  But again, gets no criticism by folks on the left, because their willful acts of propoganda are embraced.......ends justify the means

I did not lie, I said that I did not watch them as a source of information, because they are not sources of information about the news. They are, however, sources of the crap that the Oligarchy uses to indoctrinate the pitiful and pathetic lumpenproletarian Fascisti.

Book Endorsement
-------------------------------------

It's been a week full of liberal media bias examples, but after all, every week is full of them. We saw NBC news purposely edit another video clip smearing Second Amendment supporters in order to push a gun control agenda. This is the same agenda President Obama just happens to be pushing as he continues to single out the NRA and its members as enemy number one. The move by NBC impacted public opinion for a few hours until luckily new media, the team over at Twitchy.com precisely, debunked the entire thing.

Although this was a case of editing to fake news in order to influence the current political debate about gun control on Capitol Hill, often times the media simply chooses to ignore the real news for political purposes.

New York Times Best Selling Author and Washington Examiner Editor David Freddoso details this tactic in his newest book, Spin Masters: How the Media Ignored the Real News and Helped Re-Elect Barack Obama, which came out Monday.

In the book Freddoso states, "Sure the mainstream media tilt left -- even wildly left. We all know that, right? But it's even worse than you think. The trouble is not just bias -- it's that the media no longer even bother to report the news or investigate big stories."

Freddoso wades through the past year in media, covering everything from
- the media promoted war on women to
- the lack of coverage of big scandals like Operation Fast and Furious and the 9/11 terrorist attack in Benghazi.

Using humor, Freddoso points out media's most ridiculous stories with sections in the book titled, "The Zombie-Eyed Granny-Starver from Wisconsin" and "Violence Against Fact."

If you're interested in knowing how many former mainstream media journalists are actually working in the Obama administration, he's got that covered too.

Get it, read it and remember it next time you watch the news or read the Washington Post (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2013/02/01/must-read-book-how-the-media-ignored-the-real-news-to-get-obama-reelected-n1503316). The book is available now on

Doctored Videotapes are Peanuts

Many have rightly condemned MSNBC's serpentine editing of a video to make it appear that certain gun rights activists heckled the father of a 6-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook shooting massacre, but let's not pretend this was a one-off event.

The liberal media long ago forfeited their respected role as watchdog over the government and have voluntary descended to the status of a public relations arm of the Democratic Party and various liberal causes.

It doesn't do it justice to call them cheerleaders, for they are active participants, every bit as much involved in bringing about the events as the party with which they collude.

They no longer merely report the news. They deliberately influence it to advance the liberal political agenda. So while they engage in plenty of deceptions on the micro level, they daily engage in a category of sin that far exceeds the despicable doctoring of videos.

For what they're about is grand deception on a macro scale. They aren't watchdogs, and they aren't just cheerleaders. Cheerleaders wear uniforms and are readily recognizable. These progressive media mavens are cloaked in a disguise of pseudo-neutrality and pseudo-objectivity, such that when they root for the political team that is assaulting America's founding principles and driving us headfirst into national ruin, many in their unwitting audience have no earthly idea they've got skin in the game.

The liberal media's fraud is so pervasive that by presenting the news through a distorted, progressive prism, they've created an alternate reality that bears little relationship to actual reality. What has emerged is a new normal, foisted on us by a cluster of malicious manipulators who long ago abandoned their honor and their professional calling.

This manufactured pseudo-universe is what allowed President Barack Obama to win re-election despite presiding over (and largely causing) the longest period of high unemployment since World War II and the worst recovery in 50 years. It's what enables him to enjoy a 60 percent approval rating despite being conspicuously radical, hyper-partisan, consciously divisive and dogmatically uncompromising.

Just ask yourself whether Obama could have won if the media had reported on his economy objectively and let the facts speak for themselves. But they did much worse; they apologized for him and his failures every step of the way, shamelessly conspiring with him to scapegoat his predecessor, President George W. Bush, even four years after his term ended. This was as immoral as it was preposterous, but they did it with such faux earnestness that those who rely on them for their news lapped it up and digested its poisonous seed.

These are media that appointed themselves the chief prosecutors against Bush for his alleged mishandling of the federal cleanup operation in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They were on that story 24/7 from the outset, not to apprise the public of the conditions in New Orleans and other stricken locations but to cause premeditated political damage to President Bush. Contrast that with their orchestrated cover-up of the Obama administration's selective negligence for some of Hurricane Sandy's victims and affected areas.

This is a press whose superstars, with exceptions, insinuated themselves into moderating the presidential debates and actively interceded on behalf of President Obama, both in their questions and in their improper injections.

These are the "professionals" whose job is to hold our governing class to account with legitimate, pointed questions and follow-ups. Instead, they offer French kisses and free passes, despite the smorgasbord of corruption, scandal, mismanagement and policy failures that would be a welcome feast for journalists with a modicum of integrity.

Whereas they aided Democrats in constructing false scandals against the Bush administration, they wholly ignore very real ones under Obama, from the dismissal of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case to "Fast and Furious" to Benghazi.

From the corruption and waste in the president's stimulus plan to myriad green energy schemes to the fraudulent calculation of projected Obamacare costs to their protective reporting on the administration's handling of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the media have done this president's bidding.

Worst of all, Obama's media cohorts are helping him get away with not addressing the major culprit in our impending national financial catastrophe, entitlement spending. If it were not for the media's complicity, we could avert this imminent national calamity, but they simply will not perform even their rudimentary duties so as to expose this president as the uncompromising spendaholic ideologue he is.

So while we justifiably complain about doctored videotapes, let's not miss the larger point: that if this nation goes over a Greek-style financial cliff, we need look no further than President Obama's comrades in the institutionally corrupt media, without whom his destructive path could be deterred.

Fox has regular news hours, i don't know about MSNBC. But in Fox's case it is a news station with other shows thrown in, which makes it much like CBS,ABC NBC and the rest.

Please provide an example of how Fox news is a propaganda outlet??  What news have they doctored or altered to skew what was being reported??

===========================================================================
I do not wonder about this at all. There are ever more people who do not read any serious newspaper or magazine and prefer simplistic solutions to every issue.

The whole thing about criticizing the "MSM" is quite stupid, being as the term refers to the sum total of every media outlet of every description. The Internet, if used logically and thoroughly, probably is a more complete source than any single news outlet. That of course, is not how most people use it.

Saying "The Internet is better than the MSM" is like saying that sandwiches are better than casseroles, or vice versa, cars are better than buses, craigslist is better than the mall.

It reveals a simplistic attitude and mindset. The average American has little of no knowledge of the world and not much ambition to learn. I have known educated people who have visited Egypt and claimed that it was right on the Equator, that Dominica and the Dominican Republic are the same country and they have visited both, and that Ecuador is entirely stiflingly hot everywhere and all year.

=============================================================
The entire Benghazi thing was propagandized. Spending day after day after tedious day harping on how this was of major importance was clearly propagandistic. Putting Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity on what is called a "NEWS network" is nothing but propagandistic. Ailes has admitted that he designed Fox to appeal to rightwingers.

If you are unable to see this, then your opinion is worthless.

The entire Benghazi thing was propagandized.

HOW?  Reporting it is not doctoring it.  Just because the rest of the MSM decided to give it a pass, doesn't make it any less news.  It was HUGE news.

So, let's try this again.....What news have they doctored or altered to skew what was being reported??

So you have squat, as far as examples as well.  Nice to feel the validation.  Thanks

It seems bloody obvious to me.

When a news story is summarized in 5 minutes and followed (after umpteen mind-numbing commercials) by 20 minutes of commentary on one and only one view, that is clearly a bias.

PBS and the BBC typically spend 10minutes on the news issue and then follow with an interview of at least two opposing sides of the issue. That is far less biased.

Bsb's continued inability to provide even 1 example as it relates to Fox's supposed propaganda efforts, if there's all these multitudes right in front of us.  Yes, I do feel better...thanks for the continued validation

To not acccept the fact that Fox and MSNBC are biased, and to further require proof of those known facts in a debate, is borderline sociopathic. And I won't contribute to that kind of meaningless, for all concerned, exchange.  Nor, I might add, should you.

I depend on BBC,PBS and occasionally Al Jazeera English for news. Fox is a sort of comedy. I see it rather as I see the Onion. or advertisements telling me that bananas will give me a big belly, i.e., for amusement. Rather more like a visit to a freak show.

Fox opinion shows may have some bias but i haven't noticed bias from Shep Smith and the other news reporter. But i have seen bias on 60 minutes which is produced by CBS news so it balances out. But to deny that Fox News is a news agency defies logic.

To not acccept the fact that Fox and MSNBC are biased, and to further require proof of those known facts in a debate, is borderline sociopathic.

a) never claimed that neither was biased.  One leans a little to the right, the other is a bonafide propoganda arm of the Democrat party

b) to accept a "fact" you claim without actually supporting it as a "fact", outside of just your say so, is dare I say, is borderline sociopathic.  I actually produced a blatant example by MSNBC, not to mention the prior examples at both NBC news, and CBS news

You seriously need to start bringing your A game, at some point
