I suppose there are two things to add here:
No one wears a seat belt when riding in a taxicab, even someone who understands probability very well.
I assume they were both riding in the back seat of the cab.

Nonetheless, you should wear a seat belt if you do not fancy being thrown out of the taxi and getting yourself killed.
