i cannot think of a single costum that wont offend

The most popular costumes seen in Waikiki were devils and demons, followed by videogame figures like Mario and Luigi, and manga like Sailor Moon. There were a lot of people in banana costumes in 2010.
Here is a video of Waikiki 2014

ok that would offend religion, italians, japanese and thats a phallic symbol
-
There are often 50,000 people at Wakiki. There are always at least a couple of almost entirely naked people of both sexes. There is plenty that some idiot might take offense at, but that idiot would be ignored by everyone.
-
in san francisco it used to be ok to be naked but they fought the law for them to put a towel on the seat when eating in restaurants. since most of them are not even good looking the whole town finally said thier offensive.
-
I think I would like more acceptance of public nudity, but I don't expect it.
We would have to learn how.
That little towel is a common feature at nudist colonies where the people are more practiced in the mores that make nudity comfortable. They also have a shopping bag to make up for the lack of pockets.
If San Francisco really wanted more nudes they could have them , and work out the little problems that arose.
I just don't see that much desire for it.
Also isn't San Francisco a good place to wear a jacket in July?
-
Well "nude" still means pinkish or light tan.
The same thing in darker colors is a Leotard.
Is "White" still the default US color? Even though the number of citizens who are really brown have grown over 50%?
Depending of course on how light a brown you can count.
Google search for "nude" costumes makes me think that this is 100% accepted by people selling Leotards and stockings, probly by those buying them too.
There seems also to be a consensus that Lady Godiva was Blond.

It all looks offensive to me but that doesn't count. Everything offends me

A skin colored leotard will cause people to do a double take, but the naked people at Waikiki were not wearing leotards.
There was at least one women wearing a leotard with the naughty bits drawn on it.
Leotards generally make the body look better, as the creases and folds and bulges that become visible when people move are restrained a bit.
-
I notice despite leotards been around for decades it's not worn much i think it's not that comfortable.
-
I am a little overweight, a leotard would not be flattering.
I noticed that leotards were pretty popular with aliens on Star Trek.
-
Star Trek originally showed all aliens as in some sort of uniform.
Overweight people do not look particularly good in leotards, but they look better than they do naked.

I suppose that in places where adults have veto rights over children's costumes, Hallowe'en will be more boring. The fundamentalists are against Hallowe'en completely: they consider it to be anti-Christian, anti-Biblical and satanic.
Adults at Waikiki will continue to wear whatever the Hell they want, as well as to strut around buck naked. There were lots of cops, and they did not do more than just stand about and occasionally direct traffic.
There was a most memorable scene in which a guy with a Satan suit on stilts met another guy, also on stilts, in a St. Michael the Archangel costume, complete with wings, robe and halo. They embraced there and posed for hundreds of photos. Both of them was about 7½ feet tall. It was most impressive.
There were about 8 people also people in banana suits that teamed up and marched together. There were 4 Marios and 2 Luigis that posed on the corner hooting at girls dressed as princesses.
Hallowe'en on Waikiki is NOT BORING.
-
Star trek did that with the thought everbody will try to stay in shape. But riker uniform has been let out through the years

But Picard, Troi, Geordi and Warf all managed to stay the same.
The uniforms on Star Trek: Enterprise looked more like mechanic's jumpsuits. Perhaps more useful, as they had pockets. Kirk, Spock and McCoy seemed to be pocketless.
The Star Trek: TNG uniforms seem to zip up the back. NOT practical at all. Women can handle zip up the back, but not men, unless you issue them personal valets who dress them.

Cultural appropriation is a Disney staple , I am thinking Kimba has a point , if the only costumes have to be totally free of culture , I guess they will all be zombies.

I just saw that article and couldn`t laugh hard enough.
i plane to distastefully use the term -Cultural appropriation to the fullest
isn`t rap sampling other music the very definition of Cultural appropriation.

Huge and overweight was definitely the "in" look for Hawaiian aristocracy. There is plenty of evidence at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu.
The kings and queens of Hawaii were morbidly obese and that was deliberate.
-
I read these folks bodies were basically desigm fir exteme activities so it makes sense the aristocracy would likely be obese since thier woukd be the most sedentary.
Remember these folks literally rowed all the way to hawaii
I remember talk about hunters who kill wild boat with thier barehands and folks will say thats bs but when i say thier samoan they always say nevermind.
-
The idea was that the most important person should be the BIGGEST person. This was a part of many Polynesian societies.
The Hawaiian royals ate for hours and had special servants that massaged their tummies so they could put away even more food.
Samoans have come to dominate Japanese Sumo wrestling. The Japanese Sumo purists tried to exclude them because they were not Japanese, but eventually they lost the battle. Now all the top Sumo wrestlers are Samoans. They are taller than Japanese, and therefore outweigh them. And in Sumo wrestling, weight is everything.

Yes it is a thing, but I don't feel the urge to be quite that sporting.

I knew a guy who was delighted to find small ones in his traps.
These he would bring home and feed corn with molasses until he judged them fat and sweet.
Just like a farm pig .

The brouhaha about Disney portraying a Hawaiian VIP as huge seems to seems to indicate that today's Hawaiians are torn between the ancient culture in which obesity was a positive thing and a sign of wealth, importance and aristocracy, and the mainland culture, which regards is as a mark of poverty and unstylishness.
Take the greatly respected singer called "Iz, who was probably the hugest celebrity of his time.

Yes!
Well put!
...... , who exactly gets to decide whether the offense needs to be against modern American sensibilities or elder and indigenous sensibilities?
Sometimes the combination does not make sense.

Disney is crass and often engages in subtle moneygrubbing. They go out of their way to enhance profits. The drinking fountains at Disney parks are rather well concealed near the restroom doors. This is done to cause the public to pay $2.00 or more for drinks.
But I cannot really fault Disney for portraying a Hawaiian king figure as huge and obese, because Hawaiian nobility were deliberately huge and obese. It is the nature of the art of cartooning to exaggerate the outstanding features of the subjects. Had that portrayed the Hawaiian nobility as Charles Atlas types, that would have also resulted in criticism.
Should anyone venture to the famous Hula Bowl Flea Market in Honolulu, they are sure to note that the Hawaiian and other Polynesian locals are not at all the svelte Duke Kahanamoku types.
It is, by the way, a great place to shop and chat with the locals. Everyone in Honolulu is quite friendly.
