Is this guy running full sprint to the middle?
Now Obama says immigrants should "HAVE TO" learn English
No it's not optional, they should "Have To"!

nothing wrong with being in the middle
it the extremes that`s getting us in trouble.
notice how people always tend to blame one side or the other
rarely the middle

What's so funny to me about this is how those on the right don't know what to say about Obama's comments. I've seen some righties railing about how Obama wants to force all Americans to speak spanish!
-
It is required, by law which as we all know is loosely and situationally applied-that all new citizens must learn to read, write and speak english.
They only need theminimum to get by.
I'd be more impressed if Obama were discussing federal laws against requiring american citizens to become bilingual.
As for how republicans react to him: well, he and McCain aren't really that different...

Immigrants already have to learn English in order to be naturalized. This would conceivably only apply to those immigrants who need to have work visas or something similar.

Is there an exception for deafness?

If you speak ASL, it makes no difference whether you relate the signs to English words, Spanish words or Choctaw words.
I do not think we admit unskilled deaf people into the US labor force. Perhaps we admit deaf spouses or children.
I see no problem with requiring basic English fluency of immigrants. There are a lot of people here in Miami that see no need to learn English, though.
Still there are five times or more Spanish speakers taking ESL classes than English speakers taking Spanish classes, and the majority is clearly Spanish-speaking.

I would venture th say that he knows more about the middle and the left and the right as well than I do.
Or you, either, for that matter.

How so? Because he has a radio show?

I have never heard of his radio show, but I have read his articles and heard him on occasion, and he really does understand politics in general and Texas politics in particular that you or I will.
He generally offers fresh perspectives on what he discusses. I am unaware of any you might have offered. Perhaps you do not consider originality of thought and perspective to be desirable.

Hightower is nothing more than a modern day Will Rogers. So much for his originality.

===============================
That is like saying "a modern day Einstein" or a "modern day Joseph Heller". Will Rogers was also noted for being original, like Mark Twain.
Hightower is original in his own fashion, though he does bear some resemblance to Will Rogers
