Funny thing Obama made the safe choice in Biden
McCain proves he makes bold moves
-
Perhaps even more so Kramer, Obama picked the polar opposite to his mantra on change, while McCain picked precisely what Obama should have picked in a VP candidate, the epitome of change
As piss poor a decision it was to have McCain be the GOP candidate, McCain's stock just went up immeasurably in my book, knowing the message he just sent to the rest of the country, that Sarah could be your next President.

Sirs
I'm crying for joy at this moment and at the same time I have chills racing up me spine. I would love to be in the Obama war room right now.
I'm kidding about crying but I'm sure Brassmask is crying right about now.
-
WOOHOO!!!!!
-
WOOHOO!!!!!
Right on Dick
The Dems HERE are so quiet I can hear a pin drop.
-
I'm sure their war room is working overdrive, however. They need to figure out how Biden can say Bimbo in every other sentence, and not have rotten eggs thrown at him
Seriously though, this was a major league curveball pick thrown at the Obamamites, and the political timing couldn't have been shrewder. Instead of today's media focus being on last night's Obama speech, it's wall to wall coverage of the Palin pick
I swear, both patients and staff here at the hospital, that's all their talking about
NOW..........let's see what kind of bump this gives McCain, compared to the Biden pick for Obama which was..........minus a few points?
-
Classic definition of transparency - - even sirs can see through it. If YOU could see through the manoeuvre, picking a veep for the cheap headline effect, who in the whole fucking country could not?
Put another way: this guy picks someone to replace him as President if his 72-year-old ticker should suddenly quit, a distinctly sobering possibility - - and he picks a bimbo for the sole purpose of stealing a headline from Obama for a day?? THAT is the kind of judgment the country expects from their President? Lotsa luck McCain. Do you realize how fucking STUPID anyone would have to be to vote for this guy now? Judgment, my ass.
-
LOL....apparently Tee lives in a world where Politicians actually refrain from making any politically driven decisions.....oh like....picking a VP candidate that's the polar opposite of one's campaign mantra, but may shore up some electoral votes somewhere.
Yep, pretty transparent, Tee ;D
The irony of course is that Tee would be singing the praises how how great a judgement and shrewdess it shows in Obama, with such timing, had the roles been reversed...stealing McCain's thunder. Oh man, this must bite, big time for Tee
-
Well, since I'm not a citizen, I can just laugh at the whole fucking thing, but look at it this way, sirs. The day after inauguration day, John McCain goes to that great military base in the sky, leaving you in the good hands of your new President, the Alaskan Bimbo, with some fabulous experience as mother of five, runner-up in the Miss Alaska contest of 1952 (just kidding, that was 1953!) mayor and chief dog-sled rigger of some hamlet of 3,000 people and 1st-term governor of the Great State of Alaska. WOW!! What superpower could be luckier?
I don't think too many of you would be thanking McCain for the favour. All for the sake of a cheap headline one day in August. Per-fec-to.
-
McCain stealing Obama's thunder........the bastard
:D
and if it's a choice between Palin & Biden, that's a no brainer given Biden's strident bitchy liberal background
and if it's a choice between Bush III or Carter II, again that's a no brainer either. Bush easily over Carter, given the misery index (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misery_index_(economics)#Misery_index_-_era_by_U.S_president) Carter brought to the forefront
-
Finally, we've heard the last of the McCain camp claiming that Obama is not experienced enough to be president.
Congratulations on your nominee.
-
Strange...I wasn't aware Palin was running for President. Enlighten us, please
-
Y'all really like the choice?
I'm a little surprised. I have some friends here who are extremely conservative and they are pissed!
One of my co-workers said that "two years as governor of a state that depends on the federal government is awful." Are you all towing the line or are you genuinely happy? If the latter, why? What about Governor Palin do you like? What has she done that you find agreeable?

So pissed they are going to vote Obama - I think not...

I don't recall saying that. Got more strawmen?

I like her because unlike McCain, Palin is actually a conservative. Secondly, as regards to her experience, she's running for vice-president, not president. She'll have the opportunity to learn the ropes under McCain.
-
Strange...I wasn't aware Palin was running for President. Enlighten us, please
Running for vice president is running as a potential fill-in for the president should the need arise. So, that person should be looked at as running for president.
Right?
-
One of my co-workers said that "two years as governor of a state that depends on the federal government is awful."
What do they depend on the federal government for? Last time I checked, they had a yearly budget surplus every year. And it was larger than normal the last two years.

You expected a VP pick that would have unanimous support??
One of my co-workers said that "two years as governor of a state that depends on the federal government is awful."
Compared to..... a 1 time rookie senator, who's voice only has 1 of a hundred in influence, as who's biggest strength as a senator would be to obstruct legislation?? You want to go down that path? and how is Alaska's state so awfully beholden to the Fed? I realize that Stephens was a big pork barrel Senator, but bringing in a bunch of pork doesn't equate the state being in some God awful crisis
Are you all towing the line or are you genuinely happy? If the latter, why?
Towing the party line would be the support of the Biden pick. It demonstrates that McCain isn't looking for a political fix-it (what state(s) can my veep pull in?). It demonstrates that McCain doesn't do what's considered the "popular" choice, reinforcing his maverick status I guess. It demonstrates judgement in promoting a young conservative, with executive experience, that neither of the other 2 opponents have, as his incumbant
In other words, it's advocating the change & hope, by example, that the other party merely preaches, while staying focused on conservative ideals in attaining such
But I do look foward to leanring more about her

I think, but I could be wrong, that no state receives more federal dollars per dollar paid to the government than Alaska. In fact, I believe Alaska is #1 by quite a substantial margin. I have no idea what the money goes for.
-
Pork?
-
You expected a VP pick that would have unanimous support??
Nope. Again, that's not something I said.

No need to be so defensive. I answered your latter question above. Abraham Lincoln was an Illinois State Legislator and a short-timer Congressman before becoming President.
Towing the party line would be the support of the Biden pick.
You're not a Democrat, so that would be the incorrect party. ::)
It demonstrates that McCain isn't looking for a political fix-it (what state(s) can my veep pull in?).
I don't think that Delaware was ever in doubt, was it?

There was some implication of such when you referenced some conservatives not happy. Why wouldn't there have been?

You weren't asking the same of the GOP?? Inquring as if the support was simply due to "party line"?? Oh, and just for the record, I'm not a registered Republican either
It demonstrates that McCain isn't looking for a political fix-it (what state(s) can my veep pull in?).

Rhetorical Js.....picking a candidate that supposedly maximizes one's electoral votes vs picking a candidate simply because you think would be supportive of your own policies and epitomizes your campaign rhetoric
In other words, it's advocating the change & hope, by example, that the other party merely preaches, while staying focused on conservative ideals in attaining such But I do look foward to leanring more about her
So you support the choice, but you don't know anything she's done?
I don't know "much" vs "anything", though I look forward to learning more about her, as I've already referenced. But 1st perceptions are excellent, for BOTH McCain & Palin

I believe that no state has as much federally maintained land as Alaska. I'm pretty sure it's by a substantial margin as well.

Can you show that this is where the money goes? Some of that land does not require much maintenance.

Congress allocates the federal budget, not state's governors. If you want to see why so much money is going to Alaska, look to Ted Stevens, not Sarah Palin.
-

Military bases, Dept of Interior funds (which supports federal park / wilderness areas), road construction funding, and Indian tribe support are the major sources of federal money to Alaska.
Defense spending is about 26% of the money spent in Alaska. Another 24% is direct payments to individuals (SS, Medicare, etc) which is the same as other Americans are entitled. 14% is various civilian operations, like road maintenance, construction, support of offices in Alaska (IRS, HUD, HHS, etc). So that's 64% of the money spent. The rest are various grants, which includes most of the pork-barrel spending, and support of Indian tribes (via treaty / BIA). The largest of the grant programs is the Indian Health Service.
