Title: Shall we grade the moderator
Post by: sirs on October 03, 2008, 03:37:58 PM
No, Gwen didn't thow in too many loaded questions to try and trip up Palin, but I did notice 1 consistent theme.  I have no tally on this, but it sure seemed to me that Biden got the lion's share of getting to have the last word on a whole host of topics & issues, which the moderator was in complete control of.  Yea, he won the coin flip to start, but there were no coin flips for who was to get the last word on X.  Yet, Biden seemed to get the last word at least 75%, if not more of the debate questions and follow-up, from what I could tell, which included closing statements.  At least Palin had the confidence to try and redirect to a topic that Gwen was trying to move on from

Just my unscientific observation

Grade C

Ifill was impartial. She could have told them more often that they were not answering the question when they said dumb crap like "The Senator voted for tax increases 854 times", with no specifics whatever.

Mostly, neither of them really answered most of the questions.

Biden seemed to know what he was talking about. Palin was more of a good parrot. She repeated what they taught her to say.

I'd give Ifill a B-, Biden a C, and Palin a D.

I'd give Ifill a D+.

She was scared to ask follow ups.

She was scared to ask follow ups.

This is true, but I got the feeling that this was not in her job description.
The format of this debate was inferior to that of the first presidential debate.

I love Gwen , but she could have done better in this debate. I think she may have been thrown off by the smears and intimidation that the right foisted on her. If so, I love her a little less. B.

B+

She didn't make it about her. She made it about the candidates.

Shall we grade the moderator

What's the need?  The moderator isn't running for office.  I say no.
