Title: Feedback Request
Post by: BT on November 20, 2011, 02:34:07 PM
BSB is asking to be let back in.

I don't know if we need people in here whose sole mission is to stir the shit.

What say you?

BTW: Kramers ban has been lifted, he hasn't come back and apparently Mikey has decided facing his use of racist terms is uncomfortable so he hasn't looked in in 4 days.

My real question is do we try to follow bears advice and try to make this a friendlier environment or let it continue down it's path of slow death?

I would prefer friendlier to the infantile hostile taunts of Kramer and the incomprehensible rants of BSB. We need more people like Plane, who discuss topics because they are interesting, rather than polemics, because they were just heard on Limbaugh or Fox. But I do not know how to do this.

  It is hard to say.

BsB is terriffic when he is in the game , he is not always .

If everyone were just like me , I would stop showing up.

Tolerance of diffrences is really golden, have I got to be resigned to the way things are?

I don't know how to advise at this point , I am nursing the idea that the situation of this site is my fault to begin with.

I think you pretty much know my position. I got fed up with the name calling and crap long ago, so now I just peek in once in a while. It's not just here, though, politics in general has taken a nasty turn these last few years. I think in a forum where probly 99% of the posts are about nothing but politics, you're going to get a reflection of that, only here it gets nastier because everyone feels they are anonymous and they can get away with it. That's why I relish Plane's posts on any subject but politics, or BT's, or Kimba's. The rest of 'em I pretty much skip over, and some more especially than others. I have enough drama and BS to contend with in real life not to go looking for it here.

Just my two cents worth.

I'm the 1st to support free speech, even when that speech may offend another.  One does not have a right not to be offended.  That said.....

....while I agree it's pretty obvious that Tee was getting tired trying to defend his racist rhetoric, this IS supposed to be a debate forum.  The goal here IS to facilitate debate, challenge positions, DEFEND positions with reason & facts, minus the "I'm not a racist" defense, or the 3rd grade "..that is someone who is pretty much clueless on everything would say" defense

I support any reasonable measures to help guide the saloon, along those lines.  I support other posters, piping in to give a not-so-subtle nudge to someone(s) who are mearly ranting, provoking, or responding with insults vs defending a position.  They shouldn't take offense, and they shouldn't claim "1st amendment", this isn't a public venue, analogus to hurling insults at Obama or Bush, just because you might hate them

Just my 2 cents, and if I have some more loose change to provide on this subject, I'll endeavor to do so

personally i think way too much credence is given to the line of thinking that if this place was more like a library that it would be brimming with members. there are message boards much less civil than 3DHS that have tons of people posting. many of the members that have come and gone wouldn't be here no matter what it was like. their lives changed in some way that does not allow for the same time being spent here. i know MirstnKim personally and she literally does not have the time any more. i think that is more the case than "oh my...my feelings got hurt". i say let BSB back in and if he crosses some line....give him another timeout.

They don't come much classier.  Pleasant breath of fresh air, when Miss Henny comes calling     8)

Why thank you, Sirs!

I think the lack of members is due to a lack of advertising, IMO. If someone had the time to dedicate to scouring the net for new members, this place would fill up.

From my side, American politics just stop making sense to me some time ago and thus I don't have much to say. And I get tired of debating about the one issue that is really international for the U.S. (the Middle East).

Is the world diffrent for women?

So much so that the thoughts of men are not highly interesting to them?

I agree , Henny is a very valuable member.

And we are diminished by the women we don't have anymore.

For me Terra Gazelle was a lot like Michael Tee..in that I dont think we ever
agreed on anything, but I generally liked her & thought she had a good heart.
Poor ole Terra....I hope she is ok.....seemed like she had a rough life.

Terra was bright and interesting and unpredictable, and liked to discuss things other than the usual political claptrap.

The problem is this. On the internet, and in particular on forums like this one, we rely solely on the use of symbols, words, to communicate with one another. Most of our senses never come into play when we communicate in this manner. We see the symbol, and our brain, with all its luggage, reacts. There are no other clues, but the symbols, for our vast array of antennas, sound-smell-taste-touch-etc., to pick up on. That is a recipe for disaster because, unless you have a group of highly skilled communicaters, only the relative truth will be communicated and the ultimate truth will be lost.

The best posters:

The lady from N.Y. who lost a couple hundred of her co-workers at the WTC on 9/11. I really enjoyed reading her. Very bright lady. She had a methodical, professional really, approach to her postings that I liked following. And she was a damn good egg on top of her skills.

Domer, when he wasn't overtaken by his own sadistic tendencies or boring you to death, could be a good read.

The lady whose husband was a Lt.Col. in the Marine Corps.

Crane, unstable, but had some very strong points.

And me, when, as Plane said, I was on my game, or felt like writing.

Worst posters:

Me, off my game.

MT, without doubt the worst poster I ever saw. Pure propaganda, and he would have been ignored most places after two posts. Complete Blowhard.

And finally, to many to mention, without getting in trouble. Honestly, I can think of a slew of them.

BSB

P.S. There are more of the good posters but I only remember them fleetingly.

That is a good observation BsB.

Do you think that we improve over time as we attempt to communicate , or do we irritate each other pointlessly?

Improve over time? In here?

There has been plenty of time, and little improvement. Kinda like congress at the moment. In both cases the missing ingredient is the will, the desire, to communicate, compromise, find common ground. It takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to cut through the undergrowth of habitual tendencies, self serving myths, and the like. Most people aren't up to it.

I believe it was Miss Plum, as the NYC poster, folks are referring to.  IIRC, she was running late to work, which would have been up in the WTC, and yes, she did lose many a co-worker & friend, that day
